CHS clubs begin season of giving before holiday break

By Jordan Bickham Staff Writer The week before winter break is meant to be intense, with last minute assignments being given all week. There’s little time to enjoy our final week of school before our extended break, but some students are willing to give up even more of their time for their extra curricular activities and clubs. This week, various clubs and classes are having fundraisers that relate to the holiday season. For Model United Nations, the members are raising money by selling candy grams.  You can get one for a dollar and three for two dollars during lunch all week.  Send a candy gram to someone special this holiday season! Students, faculty turn winter breaks into exotic adventures

Story by Ashleigh Heaton, Editor-in-Chief Video by Hayley Struck, KCBY Broadcast For most, the words “winter break” usually mean snowfall, hot chocolate and warm fireplaces; however, for a few Coppell High School students and faculty, winter break meant kangaroos, the Taj Mahal and palm trees as they traveled throughout the world in search of relaxation and fun. Senior Amanda Olson said “g’day” to Australia over the break, as part of a family tradition in which the graduating senior selects a part of the world to visit; her older sister chose to see Paris and London when she graduated in 2008, and she has two younger sisters who will get to decide on a new destination when…

For most seniors, winter break means time spent finishing the last of college applications and for some, receiving their first letters of acceptance. Personally, I was accepted to both of my top schools by the beginning of December thanks to early application. But for most students, acceptance/rejection letters will begin to flood mailboxes around March. Another reason seniors love senior break is the guarantee of the class rank…

Thanksgiving break ends, countdown to winter break begins

Students of Coppell High School returned to class yesterday after the extended break. Even after what was for many a relaxing week, the social networking website Facebook was littered with countdowns. They read, ‘Only fourteen days left’ and ’98 more periods before break!’ along with many other numbers. I posted a similar one as my own status. Then I began thinking: does this breakdown of time help students, or hurt them in the long run? For some, it is helpful to keep their eyes on the prize, give themselves a goal to shoot for. It can make the time seem more manageable, less frightening, especially since the three weeks between fall and winter break can be filled with…
