Cowboys lose to Redskins in season opener, leave fans confused

Rebecca Neumann Staff Writer Yes, that’s right. They lost. To the Deadskins—excuse me, Redskins. Of course you’re surprised. Everyone is. America’s Team was defeated by a team that went 4-12 last year. But while many of you will blame a certain number 71 who shall not be named for costing the Cowboys the game, I have to disagree. Yes, his holding penalty cost us the game, but did it really? Maybe Buehler’s missed field goal did it. Or Dez Bryant’s dropped pass. It isn’t about blame. It’s about the team as a whole. The plain fact is that they don’t look like a team. They look like a group of very talented players that don’t…

Visit to Newseum inspires student journalists

It’s a museum. About news. Thus, the Newseum. And as nerdy as it sounds, the collective consensus when The Sidekick editors visited this past weekend for the JEA/NSPA Fall 2009 journalism convention in Washington, D.C. was that it truly was “an experience like no other”. One of the standouts was the Pulitzer photo gallery. Every single Pulitzer prize-winning photograph from every single year was on display, and the effect was staggering. So what did we learn throughout four days of seminars and sight-seeing around D.C. with some of the leading journalists and high school papers around the country? First of all, that we’re pretty good. Winning 7th place out of all 17-page and up high school newspapers felt great and we’re proud to represent Coppell High School. Secondly, that we’ve also got…

Mavericks open the regular season against Wizards

By Andy Tabor The Dallas Mavericks begin the NBA regular season with a game against the Washington Wizards.  The Mavericks come into this year with a renewed confidence after the addition of former all-star Shawn Marion.  The questions the Mavericks will need to answer will most likely be about their lack of talent and depth in their front court. Dallas has always had a great perimeter team but the key to going far in the playoffs is having a strong presence in the middle to dictate game tempo. Forward Dirk Nowitzki is still the main force for this Maverick team, along with sixth man shooting guard Jason Terry. The Wizards on the other hand look…
