Intramural Ultimate Frisbee begins Thursday

Adam Bremner Staff Writer Unlike most high schools, Coppell sponsors a fine intramural program and next up is the second season of ultimate frisbee. The first season was in fall 2010. The newest 2011 games will be played behind the fieldhouse and start at five p.m., beginning this Thursday, April 14. Last year’s spring league was played at Coppell Middle School West, but this time the high school’s fields have opened up. Seniors of Ultimate Frisbee leave behind passion, legacy

Ashleigh Heaton Entertainment Editor At its core, the rules are simple: throw the Frisbee, catch the Frisbee, win the game. It is these rules that open up a world of intense competition and comradely known as Ultimate Frisbee – a game some Coppell High School seniors helped make the staple of intramural sports. Ultimate Frisbee was first introduced to CHS in the fall of 2008, when the intramural program was formed. Ultimate Frisbee intramural proves to be source of comradery, healthy competition

Frances Ruiz Staff Writer It seems that getting into the game is no challenge for the players of Abusment Park, an intramural Ultimate Frisbee team comprised mostly of seniors, as their dedication, commitment and efforts this season enable them to be fierce competitors that are capable of winning, being the best and taking home the No. 1 spot.  With roots dating to nearly three years ago, the Abusment Park team has proven to withstand not only intense competition amongst classmates, but the passage of time as well. The team’s founders, senior and co-captain members Andy Tabor and Blake Van Patten, remain the driving force behind Abusment Park. Not only has the duo led the team…

by Ashley Attanucci Staff Writer The last game of Ultimate Frisbee’s regular season will be tomorrow, Saturday morning at 9 a.m. behind the field house. The top 6 teams will participate in a tournament-style playoff to be held November 7, this Sunday. Ultimate Frisbee, played for 3 Saturdays, is part of Coppell High School’s fairly new intramural program (as opposed to “extramural” -or varsity- sports) which allows students of the high school to participate in various sports with teams organized based on athletic ability, novice or advanced, although teams this year only played in the advanced division. Sign-up for Frisbee, sponsored by Latin teacher Jeremy Varnell, began late September. Check daily announcments or Student Services for additional opportunities to sign up for other sports this…
