Three new movies to be released in theaters tomorrow

Tomorrow, January 27 three new movies will be released to the public: The Grey, Man on a Ledge, and One for the Money. The Grey, which stars Liam Neeson, is about a group of oil-rig roughnecks that are left stranded on the sub-arctic tundra after their plane crashes into the remote Alaskan wilderness. The Devil Inside to be released tomorrow

By Annie Wen Staff Writer As school starts back up everyone is already loaded with homework and projects and the countdown to spring break has already begun. A trip to the movies will help combat all of those “I wish it was break again” feelings. Recently in the past year supernatural horror films have become a sort of cult obsession. The Paranormal Activity film series has been the most successful and have reintroduced demons back into scary movies, instead of the typical slasher horror movies. Following the release of the first few Paranormal Activities we have begun to see many demonic scary movies. Many are centered on exorcisms, such as The Last Exorcism, The Rite,…

“Date Night” movie review

By Rebecca Fowler Staff Writer Steve Carrell and Tina Fey.  Two of the best comedians on television in one movie.  What could be better, right? Actually, a lot. Date Night, featuring the stars of NBC’s “The Office” and “30 Rock,” hit theaters April 9 after much excited anticipation from fans.  The film finished No. 1 at the box-office on its opening day, beating Clash of the Titans in its second weekend as well as DreamWorks’ How to Train your Dragon in its third.  But it will most-likely only be downhill from there. The film’s poorly-advertised plot centers around an average suburban couple who, while out on their weekly “date night,” find themselves mixed up in…

Fowler reviews “Dear John”, both book and movie

By Rebecca Fowler Staff Writer “What does it mean to truly love another?”  This is the question posed in Nicholas Sparks’ praised novel Dear John, recently made into a film which is now No.1 in America. Dear John is an excellent piece of fiction, strewn with “aww” moments from beginning to end and filled with all the right characters to make girls fall in love with it.  Like The Notebook and A Walk to Remember, Dear John captures readers with its fairytale romanticism and modern-day challenges. The novel falls into place with Sparks’ other works—where it lacks in depth, reality and originality it makes up for in its ability to appeal to women in a…
