Useful SAT strategies for Saturday’s test

Many CHS students will be attending local schools this Saturday morning to take the SAT in hopes of scoring big for future plans in college. While some students who go in “blind” for the tests, meaning no prior knowledge or tutoring, the majority, including myself have been planning and studying religiously for the big day. Below I have listed my top 5 strategies for the SAT test: 1. Get a good nights rest and have a healthy breakfast in the morning. This will help fuel your effort while taking the test and ensures that you will not zone out while testing. 2. Be relaxed and confident during your test day. 3. Pace is apparent! Don’t…

TeenScreen made available for freshmen

By Mary Whitfill Features Editor Coppell High School is offering parents of 9th grade students the opportunity to have their teens participate in TeenScreen, a nationally-recognized wellness check-up program. The program, developed by Columbia University, it is designed to identify risk factors associated with depression, anxiety and substance abuse. The program is free and confidential. More than 1,500 primary health care providers and nearly 600 schools and community-based sites in 46 states have made TeenScreen available. The goal of the test is to help parents better understand the changes their children are experiencing. While for most the screen will reassure parents that their children are going through normal ‘growing pains,’ for others it will help pinpoint…

Countdown to PSAT nearing its end at CHS

Thomas Hair Staff Writer As competition continues to intensify and college admission prices continue to increase, it is becoming all the more important for students to obtain scholarships. The PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) is a prime opportunity to secure such a scholarship, as students with exceptional scores become eligible for an elite National Merit Scholarship. The PSAT is also invaluable practice for the momentous SAT test further down the line. On Wednesday, October 12 all 10th graders and paying 11th graders will take the PSAT. For many juniors here at Coppell High School October 12 will be the culmination of months, or even years, of hard work and preparation. Success on the PSAT could mean great things, as…

By Rebecca Fowler Staff Writer It’s finally time.  The end of the year is upon us, and that means final exams are, as well. For those taking exams, here are the bell schedules for June 2 and 3 and June 1. If you have zero absences, your final day of 1st,2nd,3rd,5th,6th and 7th periods is next Wednesday, May 26, and your last day for 4th period is Tuesday, May 25.  For each absence you have, your last day of school gets pushed forward one day. Seniors, remember there is graduation practice in the large gym at 2:00pm on Wednesday, June 2, even if you do not have to be at school for finals that day….

Last APUSH test brings sadness as well as joy

Rebecca Neumann Staff Writer Today, many juniors are cramming for an APUSH for the last time. Though this is mainly cause for celebration, a certain sadness hangs in the air for students of Jim Griffin knowing that he will never pass out a new syllabus again. He is retiring after this year. Although I do not regret having to memorize more than fifty identifications per test and cramming while trying to watch the NFL draft, it makes me sad knowing that future students will never have the awesome Mr. Griffin as their teacher. I have learned more about history in his class than I ever thought possible and I couldn’t imagine a better, more thorough…

Upperclassmen prepare for SAT

This weekend, many juniors and seniors from across the metroplex will congregate at middle schools and high schools to participate in one of the most feared standardized test high school students must all face: the SAT test. For Coppell students, there are several places they will go. The closest place the SAT will be given is at Coppell Middle School North, just down Denton Tap from CHS. However, many students opted for other schools, mostly due to late registration. Tonight, many upperclassmen will be cramming vocabulary words and reviewing strategies from their prep classes instead of hanging out with friends, telling themselves that in 24 hours it will all be over. The SAT results are…
