Tennis team sets sights on spring season

By Thomas Hair Online Copy Editor Though their demaning fall season ended months ago, the Coppell Tennis Team has continued practicing hard every day. Why? Unlike most sports programs at Coppell, tennis has two seasons, one in the fall and one in the spring. In the 2011 fall season, the Coppell tennis team had one of its most successful years of late, including domianting performances in district and a trip to Abilene for the State Playoffs. While the fall season is oriented more towards team success, the spring season focuses on individual achievements.  Months have passed since the Cowboys’ exit from the state playoffs in late October, and these months of preparation will come to…

Coppell Tennis concludes great season at regionals

The tennis team is coached by Jane Jackson and Rich Foster, who have been working with the team for months to ensure that this season would be as prosperous as past seasons. Indeed, on October 19 the Cowboys ventured to the district playoffs in hope of qualifying for Regionals. The tennis teamed fared very well at…

Tennis advances three to regional tourney

by Blake Seitz Sports Editor The District 6-5A Tournament was a bitter-sweet experience for some members of the Coppell tennis program. In many ways, the tournament exemplified the adage ‘out with the old, in with the new’—it was the last hurrah for many of the team’s seniors, and an exciting opportunity for a select few underclassmen. Three Coppell players—a doubles pair and a singles player—will advance to the regional tournament. The girls team exceeded expectations, placing second overall and advancing a doubles pair, comprised of second-seeded Rajashekar and sophomore Tammy Bell, to the regional tournament. Rajashekar and Bell won first place in the tournament over a first-seeded team from Flower Mound Marcus. Freshman Abbey White…

CMS West student gifts Snuggies to patients

by Ashley Attanucci Staff Writer  Twelve year old Jack Barker is a cancer patient. He is also a student, son, brother, athlete, friend and an inspiration to the 1,000- plus lives he has recently touched. Days before his birthday in September, Barker was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL), a disease which overproduces bad T-cells instead of the good ones needed to fight infections. He has since been in and out of the hospital for countless hours of chemotherapy treatment which makes him too sick and weak to attend school at Coppell Middle School West. However, the very thing that is making Barker physically weak is making him stronger as his battle against cancer…

Bad weather causes cancellations in tennis, soccer

By Travis Bremner Staff Writer Due to the raining and inclement weather all over the Dallas/Fort Worth area, there have been some cancellations of Coppell outdoor sporting events this weekend. The varsity tennis team had a tournament scheduled in Denton Guyer today but the down pour has prevented the matches from taking place. The squad has played fairly well thus far this season, and was looking to continue that, it is unclear when the tournament will be rescheduled. The girls’ varsity soccer was set to face McKinney tonight at McKinney and Saturday’s match with Austin St. Stevens may also be cancelled. The team is 8-2-4 on the season, riding on a two game winning streaking…

A look into the playoffs

By Nathan Reck Assistant Sports Editor Football: At 8-1 the Cowboys clinched a playoff berth with their third district win of the year in a 48 point blowout of Lewisville. Now all that remains for Coppell before the playoffs kick off is their final district game against Flower Mound on Friday night. While the game can’t keep the cowboys out of the playoffs a loss could pit the team against a much tougher first round matchup in Euless Trinity as opposed to playing a team with a worse record such as Keller in the opening round. More on who the football team will face in the first round of the playoffs will come following the…
