Sustainability Expo today

Coleman Armes Staff Writer Today the annual Sustainability Expo is taking place at Coppell High School. Students will attend three classes that they have choosen after TAKS each focusing on going green, helping the environment and ways people plan to help the environment in the future. Although many students enjoy this it has faced some opposition from teachers and students for being rather pointless. Coppell High School has taken note of this though and has worked to improve this the past few months. Expect the Expo to be much improved with fun and knowledge on helping the Earth. If you are interested going green click here to find out more.

Registration now open for 2011 Sustainability Expo

Michelle Pitcher Opinions Editor Registration for this year’s Sustainability Expo began this morning following announcements. CHS teachers and students are gearing up for this expo and have organized a variety of new and interesting classes for students to attend. The idea behind the expo is, of course, to educate CHS about the dangers we pose to our environment and to provide us with ideas to become more eco-friendly. Unfortunately, a few favorites from last year did not reappear on the course list, but many of this year’s sessions have already reached full capacity. To register, go to the CHS homepage and click “Sustainability Expo” on the left-hand side of the screen. Log in using your…

Sierra Club keeping CHS green

Erica Rohde Staff Writer The Sierra Club has taken root for Coppell High School’s quest for sustainability within the 2011 school year. With a large student population running about, there are bound to be plastics going un-recycled and energy wasted. It is these very concerns that drive the Sierra club to keep our environments healthy and waste-free. From Feb. 14 – 18, the club promoted their newest fundraiser: selling 28-ounce, reusable, plastic water bottles. In hopes to replace the plastic bottles most people throw out in daily routines, the reusable bottles were 10 dollars each, the money going towards club funds to support the upcoming Sustainability Expo on April 29, as well as other projects…

Oil spill a reminder of Sustainability Expo’s purpose

Satvika Ananth Staff Writer Last week, the Louisiana coast was dealt another blow – and this time, it wasn’t from mother nature. Instead, a British Petroleum oil rig malfunctioned, and now three leaks in the rig are spewing oil heading all the way to the Gulf Coast. Though BP has made some attempts to fix the rig, the current situation is far from improving. Not only is the marine life of the Louisiana coast and soon, the Gulf Coast, devastated, but the fishermen of Louisiana are out of job and out of luck as fish from the area are no longer thriving. With this spill coming mere weeks after Earth Day and Coppell High School’s…

Computer crash sparks registration rush

Mary Whitfill Staff Writer On Wednesday morning, the online registration for the Sustainability Expo on April 30 crashed, deleting the schedules of students who registered for sessions on Monday and Tuesday. Students were asked to follow the directions posted on their Blackboard to register for the presentations they will attend on the afternoon following TAKS testing.  Students were racing to the Web site to register for classes with friends. If a student fails to sign up by beginning of next week they will be given a computer generated schedule. “Me and my best friend were signed up for the cloth bag presentation, the one where you make scarf’s for soldiers, and one where you make…

Enrollment is a quick and easy process, allowing students to merely click on the courses they are interested in after reading brief descriptions of each session.
