Coppell adds new chapter to Southlake rivalry tonight

By Coleman Armes Staff Writer The Coppell Cowboys basketball team will get a shot to beat their rival Southlake, tonight away at 7:30pm for the first time this season. The Cowboys have had great success so far posting a record of 15-4 entering tonight’s game. This game also matters more due to the fact that the Cowboys are 0-1 in district play so far. Southlake has not done as well however and are 10-10 overall on the season. They are however 1-0 in district. Whether the teams are doing well or not rivalry games are usually very close and filled with excitement due to the fact that more focus is are put on these types of games. Also with Coppell…

Weekend state final predictions

By Chris Reagan Staff Writer If you’re free this weekend and you love football you should make your way to Cowboys stadium to catch the 4A and 5A state championships Friday and Saturday night. District rival Southlake Carroll is the lone Dallas representative taking on Fort Bend Hightower. As much as it pains me to do, I have to give the edge to Southlake Carroll. The Dragons just have too good of a quarterback in Kenny Hill and a very solid and experienced receiving core to back him up. For the Division II state championship we have Spring Dekaney taking on Cibolo Steele. Steele has the playoff experience, winning state last year and the team…

jfadk;fs

By John LoopStaff Writer In one of Texas high school football’s biggest match-ups of the season, Coppell couldn’t stop Southlake from running away with a victory in the final ten minutes of the fourth quarter.  The first three and a half quarters were a defensive stalemate for both teams. The Cowboys were outscored in the second half, 14-7 , on the way to a 27-10 defeat. The first half of the game was a competitive battle. Coppell’s defense held Southlake’s offense, led by junior quarterback Kenny Hill, to 13 points in the first two periods of play. But the Dragons’ tenacious front seven wreaked havoc on the Coppell offensive line all night long. Hill was held without a touchdown pass for the 2nd game all…

Coppell vs Southlake game dates back

By Chris Reagan Staff Writer Coppell High School is buzzing with talk about the always anticipated yearly football game against Southlake on Friday, but how many actually know the history between these two teams? Not many can tell you that this matchup actually goes back to  Coppell’s first year of football in 1963. Coppell won the their last game of the season against the Dragons 26-12. Despite the history this game has it wasn’t much of a rivalry until back in the late nineties when the Carroll coach called Coppell students white trash. Coppell students responded by coming to the game dressed exactly how the coach described them. While Carroll leads the series with a…

7-5A week one football predictions

By Chris Reagan Staff Writer District play kicks off friday for all teams in district 7-5A so here are the previews for the games: Denton Guyer vs. Justin Northwest Despite a rapidly improving team from their 0-10 season a couple years ago this should be an easy first district win for Guyer. The Wildcats already have quality wins over Garland and Mesquite Horn and lost a tough game against a highly ranked Cedar Hill team. Denton Guyers high powered offense will be too much for Northwest to handle.   Denton Guyer 48, Justin Northwest 10 Saginaw vs. Coppell Saginaw is another team that is steadily improving after a rough first season in 5A but they…

Cowgirls defeated in three games by Lady Dragons

By Seth Slover Staff Writer As Coppell fans filed in to the gym for the highly anticipated volleyball matchup with rival Southlake Carroll, red t-shirts were handed out to the first 600 cowgirl fans to show up.  The home side was packed full with enthusiastic fans.  Yours truly caught Bear Bass’s ball that was thrown into the stands!  Senior guys lead the students in chants that got the crowd pumped up.  However, the level of initial confidence in a victory soon diminished after a poor start. The tone set at the beginning of game one was one that persisted throughout the entire match.  Two words:  Janelle Jenkins.  This Southlake senior, number 15, dominated the game…
