Coppell placed in District 7-5A following realignment
by Blake Seitz Sports Editor In Birdville last November, Coppell’s football team suffered the loss that would end its postseason run. Yesterday, Coppell’s future was determined again in Birdville during a Region-wide realignment meeting, which set Coppell’s district for the next two years. Coppell was placed in District 7-5A for the next two seasons, along with old rival Southlake Carroll, former 4A-school Denton Guyer, Justin Northwest, Saginaw and the three Keller schools (Keller, Keller Central and Fossil Ridge). It would seem this is a lucky break for Coppell, which will be one of the larger schools in its district. Head coach Joe McBride was modest in his assessment of the realignment. “There will be no…
Boys soccer to compete with nation’s heavyweight
By Gaby Moran Staff Writer Usually, for people to see the nation’s top teams in soccer compete against each other, they have to make a trip across the country. However, in this circumstance, people only have to travel to District 6-5A matches to see the best. According to ESPN Rise Fab 50, Coppell moved up 17 spots from last year to being ranked 16th in the nation this year. While that is very good, Coppell still has to compete against a few top of the teams in the nation before going to playoffs. “We’ve put a lot of work and practice into the preseason so we’re ready to see it all come together and…
Coppell hockey climbs in district rankings with last night’s win
By Amanda Peck Staff Writer The Coppell varsity hockey team proved themselves as being the best team Coppell has had in a while by beating Southlake Carroll, formerly the number one team in the division, 5-2 last night. The team’s win last night was crucial for the Cowboys to move up in the rankings and hopefully surpass Southlake when the district games come to an end. The team played a great game, especially considering that Brandon Harley, one of the assistant captains and key scorers for the team was sent to the penalty box for most of the game after complaining about getting a penalty in the first period. The Cowboys will play six…
Cowboys enter district with eye on postseason redemption
By Peter Sblendorio Staff Writer Cowboys basketball was left with a sour taste in its mouth last February after being eliminated in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs. For a chance at postseason redemption, Coppell needs to play well in district games. Coppell (12-10) will play its first District 6-5A game on Friday, Jan. 15 against Southlake Carroll. The Dragons enter with an 18-4 record. Coppell is no stranger to the high stakes of playing well against district opponents in order to make the playoffs. Last season, the Cowboys posted a 6-4 record in district games, enough to qualify for a postseason spot. As was the case a year ago, the Coppell coaches…
Coppell hockey looks to reserve a spot in playoffs
By Amanda Peck Staff Writer The Coppell varsity hockey team not only started off their season well, but they have continued to keep an impressive record throughout the season. The team has played, and defeated, their biggest rivals including Jesuit, Frisco, Plano Sr., and Southlake Carroll at least one time so far this season. As of last Thursday they hold a 10-4 record with the four losses being against Frisco, Southlake Carroll, Plano West and Plano Sr.; but they came back to defeat each of these teams when they played them for the second time. “Though we have four losses, we redeemed ourselves and won when we played each of the teams we lost to…
Cowboys strive to move up in rankings
By Amanda Peck Staff Writer The Coppell varsity hockey team will play McKinney tonight at the new McKinney South Dr. Pepper Stars Center. The game tonight should be a good game for the Cowboys considering the McKinney Lions have won one of their district games so far. The Cowboys are 4-3 with two of their losses being in overtime shootouts. Also, tonight’s game will determine if Coppell can surpass Southlake Carroll in the rankings for their league. “We are really hoping to win the tonight’s game so that we can be ahead of Southlake in the rankings,” senior captain Charlie Busch said. “We have been practicing hard in order to prepare for our upcoming games…
Southlake upsets Coppell in hockey
By Amanda Peck Staff Writer Though Coppell was expected to win in last night’s game against Southlake Carroll, they were sadly defeated 4-3. The Cowboys beat the Dragons 4-3 in thier last match up, but Carroll stepped it up a notch and pulled out a win. “We were hoping to beat Southlake for a second time in last night’s game,” senior Co. Deep run for Coppell in the works?
By Travis Bremner Staff Writer The matchups are set and the second season is ready for action. The District 6-5A race has been compelling to watch, coming down the final Friday night for the second straight season. Now the four qualifiers go into battle the state’s best. Coppell avoided a scary situation in which they would be in a high stakes battle with Euless Trinity in the first round by beating Flower Mound last Friday. They forcefully handed that right over to Flower Mound. Flower Mound Marcus kicked Hebron out of the dance; it faces a Grapevine team they have already defeated this season. This district has prepared these four teams, Southlake Carroll, Coppell, FM…
