By John LoopStaff Writer In one of Texas high school football’s biggest match-ups of the season, Coppell couldn’t stop Southlake from running away with a victory in the final ten minutes of the fourth quarter.  The first three and a half quarters were a defensive stalemate for both teams. The Cowboys were outscored in the second half, 14-7 , on the way to a 27-10 defeat. The first half of the game was a competitive battle. Coppell’s defense held Southlake’s offense, led by junior quarterback Kenny Hill, to 13 points in the first two periods of play. But the Dragons’ tenacious front seven wreaked havoc on the Coppell offensive line all night long. Hill was held without a touchdown pass for the 2nd game all…

Cowboy baseball dubbed first in Area rankings, faces rival Southlake

Adam Bremner Staff Writer In its second home district game tonight, Coppell will square off with rival Southlake. The Cowboys sit third in District 7-5A while the Dragons’ 3-0 record positions them tied for first with Denton Guyer. Coppell (15-4-1, 2-1) is ranked 1st in the area due to an impressive non-district performance, however, recently suffered its first district loss to Guyer, 4-1, which makes tonight’s game even more important. With ground to make up, the Cowboys will be looking knock off the number 4 ranked Dragons and their ace, a Texas signee. On the other hand, the Cowboys will have their own ace in Sam Swinton taking the mound. The right-hander has already spent…

Dragon Stadium not able to hold expected crowd for Coppell-Trinity matchup

Adam Bremner Staff Writer During Coppell’s crushing of Midland on Saturday, the Bulldogs’ band could not fit on the home side and, therefore, was surprisingly placed in the Cowboys’ cheering section. When the undefeated Cowboys(ranked #2 in the state) and defending champion Euless Trinty Trojans(#1 in the state) face off for an epic battle on Friday, a simlar problem will ensue as there is no way the 15 million dollar Dragon Stadium will withstand the attendance that is anticipated. For the second straight round, Coppell coach McBride lost the coin flip to decide the location, so the Trojan Coach chose Southlake as the venue. McBride lobbied for the game to be played at SMU, but for some…

For our playoff game, the coaches of both teams met and flipped a coin…

Cowboys share No.1 spot with Dragons in rankings

By Amanda Peck Staff Writer The Coppell varsity hockey team continues its success by moving up in the rankings. They currently share the No.1 spot with the Southlake Carroll Dragons who could be considered the Cowboy’s biggest rival this year. The Cowboys played a tough game against Allen last night and ended up winning 4-3 in a shootout. They have previously lost two games that went into overtime, so last night’s win was very encouraging. District games for the Cowboys will end on Mar. 4th which marks the beginning of the playoffs this year. Coppell has four more district games to play, including the game canceled due to inclement weather last week. Their game next…
