He has been around a soccer ball since birth playing on the Texans soccer club and at Denton Ryan High School, and eventually moving…

Cowboy soccer winning streak ends against Keller

By Chris Reagan Staff Writer Video by Mark Slette and Killian Bresnahan KCBY-TV The Cowboys  suffered their first blemish on their record this season after a tie against Keller, 0-0. Despite the scoreless game it was an intense and heated game throughout and things got pretty rough out on the field with many penalties on both sides. The frustration was sure to arise from both teams trying to prevent their first district loss. Coppell is now 5-0-1 in district with Keller close behind at 4-0-2. The Cowboys undefeated streak may be over but this doesn’t mean the teams momentum will slow down. “We are not invincible, Coach Chad Rakestraw said, “I would rather this happen…

Cowboys soccer looks to keep up undefeated season against Keller

By Chris Reagan Staff Writer The Cowboys will face their toughest opponent in district on Friday night in Keller at home. Keller is currently second in district with only one tie against Denton Guyer and no losses, including a win against Southlake Carroll. While Keller hasn’t been as dominant as Coppell they have fared fairly well in district holding every opponent to one point or less. Coppell has had some issues with their defense in the past few games, excluding their back line. To keep Keller from scoring they’re definitely going to have to tighten up and organize this game. On offense Coppell has had difficulty finishing in past games being unable to put uncontested…

Cowboys dominate Saginaw in first district game

By Chris Reagan Staff Writer The Cowboy soccer team started off district play with a 3-0 rout of Saginaw to start district play on Tuesday night. Coppell dominated the game from the beginning playing a possession oriented game with a lot of short passing, in contrast to Saginaw’s play which tried to work the ball up the field as quickly as possible. Coppell maintained possession for well over the majority of the game within the opposing half of the field, stopping Saginaw offensive attempts almost as soon as they started. Tanner Lines earned a hat trick, scoring all of the team’s three goals for the game in the first half, including one in the last…

Both the boys and girls teams have State Championships under their belt and are consisten postseason contenders. According to ESPN’s Fab 50 rankings, the Cowboys are not only the team to beat in Texas, but are also the second-best high school soccer team in the entire nation. The Cowboys’ 11-0 start under first-year coach Chad Rakestraw  has…

Canceled soccer games unlikely to be made up

By Chris Reagan Staff Writer Both the girls and boys soccer games were canceled on Tuesday and were unable to be made up for on Wednesday due to the threat of more weather in the area. It is not believed that the games will be made up for due to UIL rules stating that only two non tournament games can be played in a week and district starting next week. The girls were due to face off against McKinney Boyd, who has been somewhat of a force in the area in recent years, knocking the Cowgirls out of a possible repeat state title run two years ago and winning state last year. The Cowboys were…

Soccer stud takeover

By Chase Porter Staff Writer A few years ago here at CHS someone decided having cheerleaders just wasn’t enough so they had to go ahead and create a specific fan base for every sports team. This may sound a little outrages, and it is, but with girls soccer season in full swing it seems like every guy at CHS is sporting a Soccer Stud shirt in support of the girls. If you visit the high school on either a Tuesday or Friday during soccer season, you really can’t miss them. They will be wearing a baby blue crew neck sweater with neon green letters. They say ‘Stud’ on the front and the number and last…
