Ice on roads leads to three snow days
Kelly Stewart Staff Writer For the past few days, winter weather has swept through the United States, including Texas. For CHS students and staff, it means a rare, three day break from school, as ice still claims the roads. But the winter weather has also brought many other problems with it. Power outages reigned across the area; my own house had the power shut off three times Wednesday morning. Many airlines have shut down because of ice, and travelers are stranded because of it. The problem is that Dallas does not have these kinds of storms often and the city is not properly equipped to handle ice on the road, and the conditions could get…
Winter weather keeps students and staff at home an extra day
Ashleigh Heaton Editor-in-Chief Facebook has been ablaze with happiness as students have been sharing their excitement of today’s snow day. The feeling will continue through tomorrow, Feb. 2, as CISD has decided to stay closed for another day due to inclement weather. Due to icy roads, it is suggested that citizens stay inside and avoid driving unless they absolutely have to. So, CHS, enjoy your extra snow day, but be careful and stay warm. What did you do during your snow day? Let me know in the comments!
Laura Kattilakoski Staff Writer With tomorrow’s high temperature being 33 degrees Fahrenheit (according to weather.com), many Coppell High School students have high hopes for a “snow day” tomorrow. Coppell weather has been known as being bipolar, and what really made the freezing weather tomorrow so surprising was the pleasantly warm weekend temperatures. Last year, Coppell suffered a much colder, wetter and more brutal winter than we have experienced for years. Now, everyone seems to be looking forward to the first snow day of the school year.
Snow day make-up set for June 3
By Rebecca Neumann Staff Writer After the fabulous snow day everyone enjoyed last Friday, many people must be wondering when we will make up that lost day of learning. In an email from Tracey Wallace, Executive Director of Human Resources for CISD, the fears of many were confirmed: the state will not let the district count the day as ‘instructional’, so a makeup day is obligatory. CISD has chosen to make up the missing day on Friday, June 3, the day after the school year was originally scheduled to end. However, April 2, the day when many normally celebrate Good Friday, will still be a day off for everyone if weather permits.
