Wrestling team floors competition in Arkansas

By Thomas Hair Online Copy Editor Between volleyball matches in San Marcos, football games in Midland and more, Coppell High School’s many sports teams really do seem to cover a lot of Texas ground every year. But as much as the Cowboys and Cowgirls traverse the state, very rarely do Coppell’s student athletes ever have the opportunity to compete outside Texas borders. On Dec. 11, Coppell Wrestling had a chance to do just that. The varsity boys travelled to Rogers, Arkansas this weekend to take on 18 other wrestling teams from Texas, Arkansas and Missouri in the annual NWA (National Wrestling Alliance) duels. The Cowboys competed on Saturday and Sunday and finished in 3rd place, proving that Coppell…

Assistant Principals help attendance problems

By Corrina Taylor Staff Writer A big problem at CHS is attendance issues; excused and unexcused absences and truancy are repeating problems in high schools as large as Coppell. According to an article in the New York Times, 30 percent of students miss a month of school every year. This problem is mirrored in Coppell. Since there is no single cure for absences, Coppell has taken a different direction. Coppell offers students the opportunity to make up their attendance issues. If a student has an issue with their attendance it is highly recommended that they talk to their Assistant Principal and see if it can be sorted out. The attendance committee will meet on Jan…

Thursday last day for lost and found

By Corrina Taylor Staff Writer Any discarded hats, jackets or other miscellaneous items always seem to end up in the giant heap of items in student services. Otherwise known as the lost and found, over the years the lost and found has saved  numerous encounters with an upset mother over the loss of an article of clothing or lunch box. For other students who are as forgetful as me, the last day to search through the pile is Thursday. If items are left uncollected they will then be donated to charity, so someone else can find use of the abandoned jacket. Be sure to stop by student services and double check, otherwise someone else might…

Battle against the bell: keeping tardies to a minimum

Tardies

By Corrina Taylor Staff Writer The music comes to a stop and the students’ hearts quicken as they realize they have only a minute until class starts – now it is a race against time. As they quicken their pace through the halls, they are fast-walking to their class praying they will not be tardy. As the classroom door comes into sight, the late bell rings throughout the halls, signaling the students’ defeat and their tardiness. As part of a large high school, it is likely that most students will become tardy at least once in the course of their four-year stay at CHS. It is to be expected when a student has to journey…

Clubs expose students to new opportunities

Graphic by Brian Hwu

By Corrina Taylor Staff Writer If you were to go to the Coppell High school website you would find under student activities a list of all of the student organizations including all the various clubs that are offered Unfortunately it only states the name of the club and the teacher who sponsors it, while not giving the reader a good idea of what the club actually does. It is because of this that I decided that for a week I would attend a different club every day after school, and summarize what they are about. This way it is easier for students to choose what club they want to join, and they have more than…

web

By Thomas Hair Online Copy Editor Whether you are a devout Catholic or an adamant Atheist, it is an undeniable historical fact that the Christian church played a large role in the shaping of the United States and its principles. To this day, centuries later, Christianity’s presence and influence in America remains. The Christian church reaches every corner of America.  Every Sunday, millions of Americans funnel into one of over 400,000 Christian churches across the United States. When coupled with institutions of countless other faiths that have flourished here, churches hold great influence on the masses of followers and represent significant monetary value. Imagine the how much the federal government would profit from levying taxes…

Pennies For Patients, fights against leukemia one penny at a time

By Corrina Taylor Staff Writer This year Coppell High School partnered with Pennies for Patients to raise money for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and managed to raise $1360. The point of this fundraiser is to collect as much change as students can offer; they accept all forms of change such as dimes, quarters, and pennies, hence the name “Pennies for Patients”. The three classes that raised the most change were Coach Robertson’s, Coach McBride’s and Mr. Harris’s fourth period classes. These classes earned the traditional pizza party. This year, however, Coppell did not make it as one of the top collectors. But next year, if we manage to raise enough money, our school can win many…
