Auburn and Alabama, when one hears those two names together, they will most likely think of the intense rivalry game (a.k.a The Iron Bowl), but aside from the fact that these two teams and fan bases despise each other together they have dominated college football in the past three years.

Teams from the Southeastern Conference have won the last five BCS National Championship, and last night the Alabama Crimson Tide tacked up the sixth straight BCS National Championship for the SEC where they defeated the LSU Tigers 21-0 in New Orleans.

The state of Alabama has been dominant in college football, as there have been three BCS National Championship trophies brought back to the state in the past three years. The first trophy was earned when Alabama defeated the Texas Longhorns in 2009, the second came last year when the Auburn Tigers defeated the Oregon Ducks 22-19. Then, of course Alabama completed the trio of trophies by bringing home another one by beating LSU in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

Not only has the state received three trophies in the past three years, but it has had players receive the “Heisman Trophy“ in the last two of three years. In Alabama’s 2009 championship winning season, Mark Ingram who now plays for the New Orleans Saints won the Heisman, then the next year in Auburn’s championship season Cam Newton who also plays in the NFL for the Carolina Panthers took home the Heisman trophy.

There is no doubt that the state of Alabama has been dominant in college football for the past three years, so I guess the new question is will Auburn and Alabama continue their dominance?

2. Europe: Volcanic Eruption Strands Travelers – Iceland’s Laki volcano erupted, sending clouds of ash into the atmosphere which heavily impairs air travel.
3. Africa: FIFA pleads with South Africans to purchase last 2010 World Cup tickets – 500,000 World Cup tickets have yet to be sold, an amount FIFA begs South Africans will purchase. The tickets are for 63 games, excluding the final and are being sold at a reduced price for South Africans (in order to promote their purchase). However, many are used to buying tickets at the stadium and thus not as keen on the bank or online option.
