Coppell Hockey nears end of season

Thomas Hair Staff Writer The 2011 Coppell Cowboys hockey team is loaded with talent and huge potential. No one questions that. Coppell Hockey Board of Directors President Kent Howard called the team “very physical, very fast” and the team had very high expectations before the season. However, this season, that talent and potential hasn’t always translated into victory. It has been a roller coaster ride of a season for the Cowboys. At times, they have dominated the ice, such as their 8-0 rout of Flower Mound. At other times, however, the Cowboys have been the victims of a beat-down themselves, such as their 6-0 loss to Southlake Carroll. The team is currently 9-9-2 (nine wins, nine…

Coppell Lacrosse Three- peat?

by Chase Porter Staff Writer The Coppell High School Lacrosse team for two years now has been the dominating force of Texas lacrosse. Last year the team went undefeated and won their second state championship in a row but how will they stack up this year? Being a part of the team, I have had the opportunity to see our team grow and become what it is today. The last two seasons, my freshman and sophomore years, we have gone undefeated and won two state championships in division two. This year we are moving up to division one and we are definitely going to be challenged much more than we have ever been in D2….

Flu season brings with it extra precautions

Ashley Attanucci Web Manager Flu season peaks in American every year about the same time, February. And though each year brings new and different strains of the flu -as we saw last year with the infamous swine flu- this year proves to be an especially important year to watch for influenza. The flu has recently hit CHS hard as the month of January came to a close, leaving students and teachers bed-ridden for the rest of their week. So while the 6-day snow break allowed for the school-wide epidemic to simmer down, students and families should still take the neccessary precautions to avoid this year’s flu and avoid chances of students catching it at school…

Footballs over; whats next?

Chase Porter Staff Writer Football seasons over but what is the next sport that everyone can enjoy? Well, there is soccer, baseball and hockey but theres one sport that I think is the most enjoyable of them all. Lacrosse; two time state champs are beginning there season at the end of January. The team has been practicing for a few weeks now and they look to be ready for another winning season. The team this year has moved up to division 1 but they arent very scared of their competition. The main competition this year will probably be Saint Marks and Highland Park which are both big time schools for Texas lacrosse. Both the teams…

Easy ways to get into the spirit

Ashley Attanucci Web Manager The holidays – our favorite time of year is finally right around the corner. Hannakuh has begun, Christmas is only two weeks away, the weather is cold and snow has already begun to fall (on Sidekick online, of course). Make the most of your December and let the cheer last with a few simple and fun ideas to look forward to: 1. Decorate- it’s one of the easiest things you can do to get into the mood of the holidays. If your parents aren’t in charge of this already, switch out some of the usual decor of your home with something more jolly: place a pointsettia plant as your centerpiece at the…

Basketball team scores two wins to start new season

Thomas Hair Staff Writer With high school football season coming to an end in the next few weeks, the spotlight will turn to the basketball team. The Coppell Cowboys basketball team recently began their 2010 season and shocked their first two opponents. Jumping out to a 2-0 start, the Cowboys are already appearing to be the team to beat. In their first game, on November 16, Coppell easily slid past Plano East by a score of 69-54. On the following Friday, Coppell absolutely demolished the Irving MacArthur squad by a lopsided score of 63-42. Against Plano, new season nerves nearly cost the Cowboys who found themselves behind in the first quarter. However, they soon overcame…

Phillips firing does not necessarily solve Cowboys’ problems

Rebecca Neumann Entertainment Editor As you may have heard, Coach Wade Phillips has been fired from the Dallas Cowboys’ head coaching position. While many people may feel satisfied with Jerry Jones’ decision, it does not necessarily solve the problems for the Cowboys. Yes, the defense did give up 45 points to the Green Bay offense last night. That was very, very bad. However, as you should remember, our offense has not been so hot lately either. Even before Tony Romo injured himself two games ago, the offense was not able to get many points on the board. Blaming all of the problems on Phillips when ‘run up the middle!’ was Garrett’s signature play is unfair….

The Cowboys’ nightmare continues with loss to Jacksonville

By Thomas Hair Staff Writer The Cowboys’ nightmare season that began with a loss to Washington and came to a head last week against the Giants took yet another turn for the worse in Week 8 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Cowboys had their backs against the wall but did not respond, falling to a ghastly 1-6 record. Even with surprising offensive firepower, the Boys could not keep the game close, losing 35-17.  The Cowboys, who lost QB Romo to a collarbone injury last week, had no trouble moving the ball under the helm of veteran Jon Kitna.  Once again, it seems the Cowboys have actually played decently but somehow managed to lose because of infuriating blunders and un-professional mistakes. In previous…

The show has drawn millions of viewers over the past years because of its intensity and drama. Its no wonder why the show brought home an Emmy because this show can really bring the heat. Top Chef, in Washington D.C. this season, has been a hit show and tonight is the season finale of a very surprising season of cooking. Tonight is the final three competitors and they are competing for the grand prize of 125,000 dollars, the title of…

My favorite time of year -crawfish season

by Ashley Attanucci Staff Writer It’s that time of year again! Yes, it’s spring, but more importanty the catch is in with one of the South’s most prized critters, the crawdaddy. Also called crayfish, this crustacean’s season started late February this year for big bucks and they are now available all over Dallas for the remainder of the season, for lower prices of course. I wanted to share some great places to “pinch the tail and suck the head” this month. First and foremost is Razzoo’s, where I’ve been getting my fix for years. You can get heavily seasoned (and meaty)cajun crawfish for $4.49 a pound until 7 ‘o clock during Mondays through Fridays (it’s their…
