Cowboys dominate Saginaw in first district game
By Chris Reagan Staff Writer The Cowboy soccer team started off district play with a 3-0 rout of Saginaw to start district play on Tuesday night. Coppell dominated the game from the beginning playing a possession oriented game with a lot of short passing, in contrast to Saginaw’s play which tried to work the ball up the field as quickly as possible. Coppell maintained possession for well over the majority of the game within the opposing half of the field, stopping Saginaw offensive attempts almost as soon as they started. Tanner Lines earned a hat trick, scoring all of the team’s three goals for the game in the first half, including one in the last…

7-5A week one football predictions
By Chris Reagan Staff Writer District play kicks off friday for all teams in district 7-5A so here are the previews for the games: Denton Guyer vs. Justin Northwest Despite a rapidly improving team from their 0-10 season a couple years ago this should be an easy first district win for Guyer. The Wildcats already have quality wins over Garland and Mesquite Horn and lost a tough game against a highly ranked Cedar Hill team. Denton Guyers high powered offense will be too much for Northwest to handle. Denton Guyer 48, Justin Northwest 10 Saginaw vs. Coppell Saginaw is another team that is steadily improving after a rough first season in 5A but they…
Bye week builds Homecoming hype
By Ben Cowlishaw Staff Writer Varsity and JV-A have a bye this week, building anticipation for next week’s game against Saginaw, which is Homecoming as well as the first week of district play. As the Cowboys seek to have another extremely successful year, the expectation is for them to crush Saginaw next Friday and protect their 3-0 record. With a relatively young offense, the prospect of repeating last year is a challenge the Cowboys are facing with determination. The win against Jesuit proved exciting yet disheartening as the game was decided in just the last few minutes. The Friday night lights will be off this week, as students prepare for another exciting homecoming, themed “Please…
Eight run first inning propels Cowboys to easy victory
After allowing two runs in each of the first two innings, the Cowboys were able to rebound for a 12-4 victory over the Saginaw Rough Riders. The eight run thrashing gives Coppell its sixth district win, positioning itself in second place in District 7-5A behind Southlake, which is undefeated in district. Conversely, the outcome keeps Saginaw defeated on the season with eleven straight loss. Sophmore Austin Gardener started the game off, giving up 4 earned runs off the bat, but senior Hunter Boyle provided 3.1 innings of flawless relief as the Saginaw bats were then silenced. The Coppell bats were even hotter early in the contest as the lineup ripped off eight first inning scores, shooting off…
Varsity Baseball hits streak with win over Saginaw
Thomas Hair Staff Writer The CHS Varsity Baseball Team easily disposed of Saginaw earlier tonight, racking up the runs en route to a 12-4 victory. This was the Cowboys’ best display of scoring power since their 23-5 massacre of Keller weeks ago. Tonight’s thrashing of Saginaw was a strong home win for the Cowboys as they come down the final stretch of district play and serves as a testament to how dangerous the Cowboys could be in the playoffs. With only eight games remaining, the Cowboys have compiled an impressive 19-5-2 record. Coach Don English’s squad has had a landmark year for the program thus far, being one of the clear favorites to win district. Leaders such…
Cowboys baseball to begin district play on Tuesday
By Peter Sblendorio Sports Editor The Coppell Cowboys baseball team is off to a hot start in 2011, and they are just days away from kicking off their district season. Coppell has been a balanced force early on this season, and they have a 6-1 record against non-district opponents to show for it. Offensively, they have been potent, as they have scored at least seven runs in five of their seven games. The Cowboys pitchers have been nearly as good, as they have held opponents to four runs or less five times in 2011. Their lineup and rotation depth was especially showcased in the Baylor Medical Tournament over the weekend, as the Cowboys went 3-0…
