Coppell Tennis concludes great season at regionals
By Thomas Hair Staff Writer In recent years, the Coppell High School Varsity Tennis Team has enjoyed tremendous success in post season play. Last season, the Cowboys and Cowgirls of the tennis team earned the title of 6-5A District Champions. The tennis team is coached by Jane Jackson and Rich Foster, who have been working with the team for months to ensure that this season would be as prosperous as past seasons. Tennis advances three to regional tourney
by Blake Seitz Sports Editor The District 6-5A Tournament was a bitter-sweet experience for some members of the Coppell tennis program. In many ways, the tournament exemplified the adage ‘out with the old, in with the new’—it was the last hurrah for many of the team’s seniors, and an exciting opportunity for a select few underclassmen. The girls team exceeded expectations, placing second overall and advancing a doubles pair, comprised of second-seeded Rajashekar and sophomore Tammy Bell, to the regional tournament. Rajashekar and Bell won first place in the tournament over a first-seeded team from Flower Mound Marcus. Freshman Abbey White…

Tennis team to face El Paso Franklin at Regionals
By Blake Seitz Sports Editor Following a decisive 10-5 win in the district championship, the tennis team heads to Abilene this weekend for the Regional tournament. It will play its first match tomorrow against El Paso Franklin. This marks the 12th year in a row that Coppell has attended the tournament, a statistic that goes hand-in-hand with the team’s streak of district championships—the team has not attended the tournament as anything less than the district’s number one seed. Top seeding in district gives Coppell a leg up in the tournament. “Ones play twos,” head coach Jane Jackson said. “This guarantees we won’t play a championship team in the first round.” The nature of Texas tennis,…
