Hamilton has unfortunate relapse
By Tanner McCord Staff Writer Last night on Twitter, I had the misfortune of reading that Texas Rangers’ outfielder Josh Hamilton had an alcohol relapse. Reports say that Monday night (Jan. 30), Hamilton was spotted at a local bar drinking. The well known ball player’s last relapse with alcohol occured in 2009 when he was drunk in public and had some very incriminating photos surface. No pictures have been revealed and few details are known about the incident last week. Bob Sturm, host of “The Ticket” radio show, tweeted: “Josh Hamilton press conference will alter things at 1, but of course, that is pretty important.” Hopefully the press conference will provide some clarity to the…
“Yeah, I like Texas; ain’t it fine here”
By Ben Cowlishaw Online Copy Editor Over the past six months, I’ve watched 26 live dot races (or the occasional “Legends” race), I know Pat Green’s “I Like Texas” by heart, and have learned to appreciate the foul stench of garlic fries. There has been no greater influence on the last six months of my life than the Rangers. The Rangers have taken priority over my job, school, and (I’ll admit) my family. I feel extremely lucky to have had tickets to every home postseason Ranger game; few ever have a chance in their life to experience something as incredible as that. Last night, as I witnessed the Rangers’ 4-2 win over the Cardinals, putting…
Students wearing Rangers gear on Wednesday
By Seth Slover Staff Writer Just about everyone not currently residing under a rock knows that the Texas Rangers are playing in this year’s World Series. Game one against the St. Louis Cardinals is tonight. To play a part in rooting on the team, Coppell High is having a Rangers spirit wear day Thursday. Win or lose, countless CHS students will be sporting their Texas Ranger T-shirts, sweatshirts, and hats. Everyone is encouraged to participate tomorrow. So if you aren’t already a fan, it’s not too late – just go ahead and hop on the bandwagon now.
Return of the ‘Claw and Antlers’
By Ben Cowlishaw Staff Writer During last year’s historic postseason run for the Texas Rangers, many students could be seen supporting the team with jerseys, shirts and other fan gear. As the Rangers head into game three of the American League Division Series (ALDS) against the Tampa Bay Rays, students are once again anticipating an exciting October. Game one of the series, a 9-0 blow-out for the Rays, was disheartening for some students. Junior Madison Coleman was at the game, and quickly became concerned for the playoff future of the Rangers. “It was almost upsetting to see them lose so badly. Seeing CJ [Wilson] give up so many runs really crushed my hopes of having…
Rangers’ fans wave goodbye to attempted ban
Students at CHS have many opportunities to showcase their school spirit and pride at the multitude of sporting events played at home. But some of the local professional sports teams aren’t as forgiving. Rangers fans who live in the area will meet no such resistance to revive the wave, a ballpark tradition for a long time. This came after Chuck Morgan, Senior Vice-President of In-Ballpark Entertainment at the Ballpark in Arlington, apologized for his snide campaign to take away fans’ enjoyment of our nation’s pastime. According to Greg Holland, author of www.Stopthewave.com, and leader of the front, the wave should only be started under certain circumstances, including during a playoff game or if the home…
Jesuit Rangers 13, Coppell Cowboys 11
Chase Porter Staff Writer Last night, March 9, 2011, our Coppell High School lacrosse team fell to the number one ranked Jesuit Rangers 13 to 11. The guys Coppell Lacrosse team has is a two time state champion in divsion 2 and this year the team made the switch to division 1. So far the teams record has been undeafted until last night and they are currently ranked second in the state. The game last night against Jesuit was promised to be one of the biggest games of the year and it did just that. Even though the Rangers pulled of the win in the closing minutes the Cowboys gave it all they could but he…
Rangers trip to World Series special for grounds keeper, Hernandez
Chase Porter Staff Writer Video by Courtney Echard and Susie Shahsavari The first time in Rangers history since the beginning of the franchise in 1961 the team has finally done what was thought to be impossible and that is to reach the World Series. The franchise, in 1961, when the team was originally named the Washington Senators never neither won a playoff game nor went to the post season. When the team moved to Arlington and were named the Texas Rangers their luck did not change until this season. For 21 years, Coppell assistant baseball coach Pat Hernandez has been a ground crew worker for the Rangers at Arlington Stadium and Rangers Ballpark and has…
CHS math teacher Mr. Fields proves to be a big Ranger fan from the beginning
by Abby Drake Staff Writer Coppell High School’s math teacher Michael Fields has been an avid Texas Rangers fan every since he was a small boy, listening to the games on radio and imagining the mystical magical world of Arlington Stadium. As a child Fields was enthralled by the Texas Rangers and collected only baseball cards of Texas players. He and his brother would spend their time listening to the game on the radio since they lived in east Texas, far from the ballpark. Time passed and Fields found himself as an even bigger Ranger fan than before. He witnessed a piece of Ranger history when he saw Nolan Ryan pitch a no hitter in…
World Series hits home for Fryman
Sammy Robben Staff Writer Some casual observers couldn’t have even told you what color the Texas Rangers were before they made it to the World Series, but for teen leadership teacher Nicky Fryman, it is the pinnacle of lifetime of Rangers memories. When Fryman was 7, along with her parents and younger brother, her family would drive from Oklahoma to watch the Rangers play from their box seats at the old Arlington Stadium. “We are a really close knit family and tradition is really important to us, we would dive all the way because it meant so much to us,” Fryman said. Even though the Rangers weren’t the best team the memories she made were….
Rangers and Cowboys
By Chase Porter Staff Writer I have a love, hate relationship with the Dallas professional sports teams. It seems like when one team is up the others are down. The Rangers are on an excellent playoff run gaining their first playoff advancement.. ever. After defeating the Ray’s they are now one win away from defeating the Yankees and going to the World Series. Unfortunately the Rangers pitchers the past few games have been walking people and the Rangers manager has been calling the bull pen more and more. The Rangers play the Yankees tomorrow night in game 6 and the Rangers lead the series 3 to 2. I really don’t care about winning the World…
