Cowboys trounce Panthers, Dominate Dawgs

By Chris Reagan Staff Writer The Coppell Cowboys finished the first day of the annual Coppell Kick-off Classic Thursday with a 2-0 record against Plano East and Midland, holding both teams to shutout wins. Thursday afternoon Coppell played Plano East, easily defeating the Panthers 4-0. Following this game later in the day Coppell took on Midland taking care of the Dawgs, 3-0. Goals were scored by Mitchell Parnell, Steven Wheatcroft, Tanner Lines, and Will Simonds. After the first day of play Coppell sits at first place in the tournament, doubling the second highest point total and a three goal lead over second place. Coppell takes on South Grand Prairie tomorrow at 2 P.M. at Coppell.

Cowboy’s basketball wins season opener against Plano East

This game was not only just the start of the season for the Cowboys it was also the beginning of the long road to defend their district championship, which they earned last year. It also was sort of a rivalry game as these two teams have met in their season openers 15 straight times now. Cowgirls reach playoffs for first time in 5 years

Adam Bremner Staff Writer Winners of their last three regular season contests, the Coppell Cowgirls enter the post season for the first time in 5 years. Coppell finished 3rd in District 7-5A with a 10-4 record as they fought back during the last weeks of the season, defeating Justin Northwest, Keller Central and Keller. Overall, the squad put together a 22-6 record and are poised to make a potentially deep run in the playoffs. Last time the Cowgirls made the playoffs, they were bounced in the first round by Colleyville Heritage by a 20 point margin. Basketball team scores two wins to start new season

Thomas Hair Staff Writer With high school football season coming to an end in the next few weeks, the spotlight will turn to the basketball team. The Coppell Cowboys basketball team recently began their 2010 season and shocked their first two opponents. Jumping out to a 2-0 start, the Cowboys are already appearing to be the team to beat. In their first game, on November 16, Coppell easily slid past Plano East by a score of 69-54. On the following Friday, Coppell absolutely demolished the Irving MacArthur squad by a lopsided score of 63-42. Coppell played first round at Coppell Middle School West and playing on their home field was a definite advantage. The undefeated Cowboys played the Plano East Panthers first round. The Cowboys shut out the Panthers with a final score of 11-0. After a great first round, Cowboys are scheduled to play the Highland Park DII team. Coppell looks to take down panthers in round two

Nathan Reck Assistant Sports Editor After pulling out a 20 point victory in the opening round of the playoffs against Keller Coppell now faces the Plano East Panthers in a second round matchup that starts at 11 am Saturday morning at the Dallas Cowboy’s Stadium. In the opening round Plano East escaped with a win thanks to a 16 point fourth quarter that sent the game into overtime where a guttsy call to go for two gave the Panthers a one point victory over Irving MacArthur.
