Volunteers experience true meaning of serving others

By Caroline Carter & Madison Weaver Though many people participate in community service just to meet mandatory service hour requirements, some have a deeper reason for giving up hours in their day to serve others. At the North Texas Food Bank, over 500 volunteers come every week to show others how much they care. The North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1982. By providing and distributing about 90,000 nutritious meals a day, the NTFB has greatly impacted the seniors, adults and children of 13 North Texas counties. Turkey drive gets students into the spirit of giving

By Jordan Bickham Staff Writer Thanksgiving is a holiday filled with giving and cherishing what you have. But if you do not have much, the North Texas Food Bank is willing to help. The organization was established in 1982 by Liz Minyard, Kathryn Hall, Jo Curtis and Lorraine Griffin Kircher. Their goal was to address the issue of hunger in the North Texas area through donations, distributing food to various charitable organizations which feed the hungry. They do this through 13 Texas counties, and in their first year they distributed 400,000 pounds of food. 7th annual Turkey Drive

by Caitlin Conner Staff Writer Friday Nov. 20 was the 7th annual North Texas Food Bank Turkey Drive at Coppell High School and all surrounding middle and elementary schools. Ready, Set, Teach! students spent the day at their elementary and middle schools collecting the turkeys while senior officers stayed and collected at CHS. “It just makes sense for all of the Ready, Set, Teach! kids to help with the drive since they are already at their schools,” Shelly Redding said. “I want the students to learn that teaching isn’t just about teaching. Coppell holds annual Turkey Drive

“Fan Bring a Can” scheduled for Nov. 6

By Loren Hughes Staff Writer The first annual ”Fan Bring a Can” fundraiser will be introduced to CHS this year.  CHS’ UIL district will be uniting with the North Texas Food Bank and Christian Community Action (CCA) in order to collect canned donations on Nov. 6 at the Coppell vs. Flowermound away football game.  Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) will be stationed at the visitor’s entrance of the stadium in order to collect the canned donations.
