NHS to hold February meeting
Julia Kim Staff Writer The National Honor Society (NHS) will meet tomorrow, Feb. 10 in the lecture hall at 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. T-shirts will be handed out during this time, with sizes going out on a first come, first served basis. The club’s yearbook photos will be on the following Friday at 11:30 a.m. for seniors and 11:50 a.m. for juniors; officers ask that everyone wear their shirts. During the meeting, the club will recognize those who have completed all their hours in addition to announcing future opportunities for service hours. NHS invites new faces
Julia Kim Staff Writer Juniors and seniors with a GPA of atleast 4.8 have the opportunity to apply for the Coppell High School National Honor Society. Applications for the fall induction can be picked up in sponsor Kevin Casey’s room B214. They are due by Nov. 19 and should include letters of reference. The National Honor Society is nationally recognized program that recognizes academically outstanding high school and middle school students. At CHS, the club is involved in a multitude of different acts of volunteering including helping at local elementary schools, assisting food drives and banks and picking up trash at monthly trash pick-ups. Last chance at NHS hours
by Ashley Attanucci Staff Writer For all NHS members and seniors especially, the countdown has begun for the end of school, which means that NHS hours will be due. The club has posted times for trash pick-up opportunities all week, from 5 to 8 p.m., offering a total of 15 hours. Trash pick-ups would go toward group hours, extra hours rolling over to individual. Monday’s was at CMS West, Tuesday at Mockingbird, Wednesday at CMS North, Thursday at Wilson and today’s -the very last opportunity at group hours- at Cottonweek Creek Elementary. Hours are due by next Thursday to Mr. Puryear in the library.
Last minute NHS hours still available

Well, not to worry, because there are still many places that are available, even for group hours. A few excellent places to get individual hours are the Coppell Community Gardens (which offers double hours), Coppell Teen Court (which also offers double hours), Petsmart and the Coppell Public Library. NHS community service opportunities
National Honor Society is offering many upcoming group hour opportunities. First and foremost, benefting CHS directly, is month trash pick-up at the school. The first Saturday of each month, NHS members are to meet at the high school to pick up trash outside around the school; check in with an officer outside the gym. Volunteers are also needed at the Destination Imagination competition at the school on Friday and Saturday (6-10 pm; and 7:30-12 pm or 12-4:30 pm) for shifts. The NSHS meeting will be today at 4 p.m., and the morning meeting will be tomorrow at 8 a.m. The purpose of the meeting will be to notify members of the cancellation of the holiday social that was scheduled for this upcoming Saturday, and to also inform members of when service hour logs will be due. National Honor Society admits new members
By Ashley Attanucci Staff Writer Video by Matt French and Robert Brancheau Coppell High School’s National Honor Society admitted 150 new members this year to its Excalibur chapter, including 19 seniors, 12 juniors and 110 sophomores. The Induction Ceremony, held last night, included the inductees, officers and many proud parents. Principal Brad Hunt opened the ceremony with a warm welcome, followed by the traditional lighting of the candles (a candle for each characteristic of scholarship, character, service and leadership) and an announcement of the candidates led by sponsor Jeb Puryear who handed each candidate a certificate of membership. CHS donates blood, saves lives 
By Julia Kim Staff Writer National Honor Society partnered once again with Carter BloodCare to organize the blood drive at CHS that took place in the south gym on Wednesday, Oct. 7. This was the first of two blood drives at the high school, the next to follow in spring. NHS officers volunteered at the blood drive along with professionals from Carter BloodCare to host a successful drive. Although students had the option to do walk-ins, most began signing up a week before in preparation for the event. “This is actually my second time giving blood,” senior Grayson Akerly said. “I saw upperclassmen doing it and I wanted to be a part of that.” NHS…
