Frost shows she has talent, work ethic to make it big
By Coleman Armes Staff Writer In the entertainment industry there are actors and actresses and there are also musicians. Every now and then, however, you have those talented few that can do both and at Coppell High School there just might be one of the next talented few. Students often mention how they would love to get into acting, want to be a professional music artist, or learn to play an instrument but never really try. They think a goal like that is out of reach or very slim so they give up. This is not the case for sophomore Alyssa Frost. She knows she loves acting and music and is making sure she…
“The Voice” versus “American Idol”: which appeals more to the current audience?
Rebecca Neumann Entertainment Editor With only a few days left until the final results show of “American Idol”, the few devoted “Idol” fans do not have to wait much longer for a new star to be crowned. However, with so few true fans left, and comp etition from the new NBC show “The Voice”, some wonder if “Idol” can last more than another few seasons. “Idol” was an original idea when it hit the small screen in 2002 on FOX. Watching a panel of judges criticize terrified, normal people somehow appealed to a wide audience. Now, with other shows that include judging panels, such as “Dancing with the Stars” and “America’s Got Talent”, part of…

The new season is said to feature much change in the fictional city of Dillion, Texas where the show takes place. Friday Night Lights will air 13 episodes this summer; it played over the winter on DirecTV and now hits the network. Despite being critically acclaimed, rhe show has struggled to get viewers and the was effected by the writers’ strike in 2007-2008, and has been on verge on being cancelled so NBC made a deal with DirecTV to help financially. If you haven’t seen the show, you might be able to guess what the…
“Date Night” movie review
By Rebecca Fowler Staff Writer Steve Carrell and Tina Fey. Two of the best comedians on television in one movie. What could be better, right? Actually, a lot. Date Night, featuring the stars of NBC’s “The Office” and “30 Rock,” hit theaters April 9 after much excited anticipation from fans. The film finished No. 1 at the box-office on its opening day, beating Clash of the Titans in its second weekend as well as DreamWorks’ How to Train your Dragon in its third. But it will most-likely only be downhill from there. The film’s poorly-advertised plot centers around an average suburban couple who, while out on their weekly “date night,” find themselves mixed up in…
NBC’s “Parenthood” makes comeback
In a blog last week, I called NBC’s pilot episode of “Parenthood”, “bland”, “unoriginal” and “similar to a re-run of 7th Heaven”. Can I take it back? The second episode which aired last night completely reassured my former doubts on the show. I suppose it just needed a starting week to kick off from the ground and really get moving, because this week’s episode was filled with intense drama and interesting plot turns, leaving me itching for more answers by the final scene. This week , Adam (Peter Krause) and his wife’s son, Max, is diagnosed with Asberger’s Syndrome, causing a great deal of grief and confusion through the entire family. Sarah…
New Season of “Parenthood” brings mixed feelings
By: Renee Rohani Business Manager NBC’s Pilot episode of “Parenthood” aired Tuesday night, leaving me unsure on whether I actually liked it or not. The show includes an great cast of Lauren Graham, Peter Krause, and Craig T. Nelson just to name a few. Yet it seriously lacks any originality in plot. I personally found the storyline somewhat bland and essentially overdone. It felt like a re-run of “7th Heaven”. The storyline follows multiple generations of a family and the ups and down of their lives. Graham plays a divorced mother with two rebellious teenagers. Her brothers, (played by Peter Krause and Dax Shepard), and her sister, (played byErika Christensen) all have their own…
Conan leaves empty hole in NBC
I’m trying to find the logic behind angering your biggest asset— besides their action/comedy “Chuck”, of course— in order to save a poorly rated show with an overrated host. Needless to say, I can’t come up with anything. NBC messed up. Big time. Okay, okay, I get it. This has been talked about so much lately that everything just seems repetitive now, but hear me out. I don’t truly blame Jay Leno for the injustices done upon Conan O’Brien this month. I just don’t really believe it when he says he feels bad about it. If he did care, he would’ve just retired instead of boarding a sinking ship. Whoever decided to save Leno at…
Midseason changes for TV
by Melissa Brisco Staff Writer At the start of each new year, television networks asses the successes and failures of their shows and choose to replace them or start a new show. In addition, there are shows that come back at the start of the new year after a year or half year off. Regardless of why, there are many changes in the landscape of television programming has changed immensely. One new show that has been receiving much buzz is ABC’s “The Deep End”. “The Deep End” revolves around a new group of five lawyers from all different backgrounds at a prominent law firm in Los Angeles, California. The boss on the show is known…
New upgrades for “Chuck”
Rebecca Neumann Staff Writer After being on hiatus since April, NBC’s hit television show “Chuck” has returned with some new upgrades. “Chuck” centers around Chuck Bartowski, played by Zachary Levi, a computer expert for the fictional Buy More technology store (sound familiar?). Two years ago, in the series premiere, his life was suddenly turned upside-down when he came in contact with a computer program called the Intersect that downloaded top-secret government information into his brain. What is so appealing about the show is its extensive back-story and depth. This fact has earned “Chuck” a panel at San Diego’s Comic-Con as well as a flock of devoted fans. It has invoked so much enthusiasm, in fact,…
No more Mr. Nice Spy for “Chuck” fans
By Ashleigh Heaton Entertainment Editor Thank the heavens — “Chuck” is coming back on air. Tomorrow, Jan. 10, the show will kick off its third season with a two-hour season premiere beginning at 9:00/8:00 p.m. central time, followed by a one-hour episode at its regular time on Monday, Jan. 11 at 8:00/7:00 p.m. central. And, may I say, it’s about time. At the end of season two, the series’ future was in limbo regarding whether or not the show would be back for another season. The story follows the life of Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi), a computer nerd who gets mixed up with a flurry of spies and dangerous situations after the government’s secrets are…
