UIL realignment places Coppell in District 5-5A
By Julianne Cauley News Editor Every two years, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) realigns the state’s athletic districts. This morning, Coppell was placed in District 5-5A with some familiar foes. Distrct 5-5A Coppell Denton Ryan Lewisville Lewisville Flower Mound Lewisville Hebron Lewisville Marcus Coppell is currently in District 7-5A with Southlake Carroll, Keller, Keller Fossil Ridge, Keller Central, Denton Guyer, Saginaw and Justin Northwest. The traditional rivalry between Coppell and Southlake Carroll will not occur in district play in the new alignment. However, the school is in Region I along with Coppell and they could go head-to-head in the playoffs or non-district play. Additional realigned districts and regions can be found here.
Band to go to DMI contest this weekend
By Annie Wen Staff Writer This week the CHS band will be heading out to Duncanville for the annual Duncanville Marching Invitational. This contest is held every year and 20 area bands are chosen to compete based on their past record of success. The CHS band has had a great marching season so far, winning 7 awards at the Mesquite Marching Festival and earning a First Division at the UIL contest. The DMI contest is the second most important contest of the season, the most important being the Bands of America contest that will be taking place next weekend. Cowboys soccer dominates at Marcus Tournament
Thomas Hair Staff Writer In their final non-district tournament of the season, the Marcus Tournament, the Coppell Cowboys soccer team clobbered four opponents this weekend from January 27-29. The Cowboys matched up against Odessa Permian, Mansfield Summit, FW Eastern Hills, and Marcus, shutting out each team for a combined score of 16-0. Coming off of a 1-1-1 performance at the Governor’s Cup, this was an impressive showing for the Cowboys. On the first day of the tournament the Cowboys edged passed Odessa Permian 1-0, but things were soon to take a crazy turn. The Cowboys are ranked as the second team in the district with an 8-4 district record and a 17-10 overall record. Marcus, Duncanville matchup intriguing

The game features two of the area’s best players, Marcus Smart of Marcus and Baylor-bound Perry Jones of Duncanville. The Panthers (22-12) are a perennial powerhouse, but they’re not on the same level this year as in years past. Marcus, defending state champions, finished 11-1-1 in district last season. Coppell finished 6-2-1. Despite having their home crowd behind them, Marcus was able to improve its perfect district record of 8-0. The Cowboys fell to 4-4 but was able to clinch one of the four playoff spots. They sit in fourth place in District 6-5A, just one game behind 5-3 Lewisville and Flower Mound. Coppell takes down Marcus in important 6-5A showdown 
By Andy Tabor The Coppell Cowboy football team beat Flower Mound Marcus 42-21 in a statement win for the Cowboys. Coming off of a shaky win against Hebron, the Cowboys left no doubt that they were the better team against Marcus Friday night. Once again, junior running back Cam McDaniel put on a show for Coppell, scoring five touchdowns. McDaniel had only 41 rushing yards, but made many impact and momentum shifting plays to help Coppell secure such an important win.
