Sandfort family safe following scary Boston experience

By Addy Buigas-Lopez Business Manager Over 27,000 athletes participated in the 117th Boston Marathon today after months of physical training only to reach the finish line with the shock of their lives as the explosion of two bombs cut their celebrations short. Police officers and the SWAT team swept the area after cancelling the marathon and locking down all local bars and restaurants. Currently, two fatalities have been reported and about 100 people and counting are being treated in local hospitals, several needing amputations. Some students sing, produce artwork or play a sport while others choose to run 13.1 miles. The reasons students choose to run a half-marathon vary greatly. Registration for annual Turkey Trot begins

By Caroline Carter Staff Writer Every Thanksgiving Day the Dallas YMCA and Capital One Bank put on the annual Turkey Trot. Registration has begun and it will be a fun event for the whole family. The Turkey Trot began 43 years ago and was originally held at White Rock Lake but is now held in Downtown Dallas. This year runners have the option of running or walking either eight miles or a 5k. The Turkey Trot is a tradition that attracts thousands of people from across the Dallas/ Fort Worth area. The latest statistic is that one of out of every three people is affected by cancer. It is because of the serious statistics that people join together against cancer. On November 15th at 6:30 p.m. there will be an informational meeting about Relay For Life, an organization that holds an annual marathon for cancer awareness. HOSA to “run” preparations at the Dallas White Rock Marathon

Julia Kim Staff Writer The annual Dallas White Rock Marathon will take place this Sun., Dec. 5, beginning at a new location this year: Fair Park. The CHS HOSA Club will volunteer at Aid Station 14 and prepare to serve water and Gatorade for thousands of runners; this is another year in which the club has participated in this event. The run begins at 8:00 a.m., but the school’s volunteers have planned to meet at the CHS field house at 6:00 a.m. in order to carpool to their station located near White Rock Lake.
