Cooking for the Cowboys

Cafeteria manager, Gena Honza goes through a run down of supplies in the CHS school store.

By Dyer Whitt Staff Writer Every day at CHS over 1,800 students bring their rumbling stomachs to the cafeteria, or “commons,” during lunch for a bite to eat. Behind the madness, the cafeteria employees work hard to serve adequate lunches to a plethora of hungry students. To accommodate the mass amount of students coming through the cafeteria, the commons is equipped with three lunch lines serving traditional cafeteria food and also a multitude of carts or kiosks including CiCi’s pizza, Chick-Fil-A, and deli style sandwiches. On top of that, the CHS cafeteria also has it’s own store where students can buy candy, snacks, drinks and a variety of other foods. This high school cafeteria is…

In addition to undeniably cool senior class shirts which declare “BACK OFF, I’M A SENIOR” in all caps, and an upcoming panoramic photo opportunity, the seniors will enjoy a Senior Class Picnic this Wednesday during school. CHS vending machines save lives

Lunch time is not lunch time for all of us. For my fellow procrastinators, or as I like to refer to as ‘crafty planners,’ lunch is considered an extra thirty minutes to do homework that was boycotted the night before. So in that thirty minutes I am always rushing. Despite what I convince myself, I am horrible with timing things correctly. it is safe to say I never have time to grab lunch on my way to 5th period like I think I will. Thankfully, this school happens to be equipped with a few decent vending machines. If you can’t find anything moderately nutritious in the two candy bar dispensors, you will always manage to find something tasty but not too guilt-worthy in the other three….

There are two levels of Renaissance lunch, red and gold, for different levels of achievement. Red lunch, is available to all students with grades above 80 for the semester, while Gold lunch is only available for students with all semester averages of above a 90. “I would definitely go to Zena Sushi, its close by and it’s an…

Lunch room food: The Otis Spunkmeyer

by Chase Porter Staff Writer Video by Davis Deloach and Josh Oden In the lunch room there are many types of food to pick from, from pizza to the mystery foods of the international line, but one delectable in the cafeteria has become the most popular: the Otis Spunkmeyer cookie.                 The cookies have been around for about five years now and the students here at CHS can’t get enough of them. Many students have one or more cookies during the lunch period, and for the unfortunate few in C lunch, there are rarely enough cookies left for the last lunch of the day.              The extremely dedicated lunch ladies that make these cookies say that…

Con: Should military recruitment be allowed in high school?

We see them almost every day during lunch: big, strong, soldiers in uniforms offering scholarships, a life on the edge and a way for young patriots to serve their country. They set up tables with plenty of information, brochures and lots of smiles for potential new recruits. It is hard to deny high schools across the country are ripe with the qualities the military is looking for: young, smart, athletic, healthy. But is it really right to let America’s youth fall prey to the rewards and glory offered to by the military without being fully aware of the consequences or risks involved? Think about it: as young adults, students are always told their brains are…

Frozen yogurt now served at lunch

By Rebecca Fowler Staff Writer Much to the delight of Coppell High School students, soft serve frozen yogurt is now being served at all three lunches. The cost is $2.50 for a good-sized cup, and then students can get creative with the yogurt and toppings (everything is self-served). The options for frozen yogurt are chocolate, vanilla or chocolate vanilla swirl, and the topping options are strawberries, nuts, sprinkles or brownie bites. Though the cost is a bit pricy, the yogurt is delicious and is given in a generous amount. The new frozen yogurt can be bought at the Deli Depot in the small commons.
