Northwest stuns Coppell at home

The Cowboys lost to

By Chris Reagan Staff Writer Justin Northwest pulled off what will undoubtedly be their most impressive win of the past few seasons against the Coppell Cowboys Friday night escaping with a 10-7 win. The loss marks the first time Head Coach Joe McBride has lost at home since coming to Coppell in 2009 Coppell looked promising at the beginning with junior Omari Cole returning the opening kick all the way to Northwest’s 22 yard line, but despite the field position Coppell ended the drive with a missed field goal attempt. Northwest led the whole game holding Coppell to just under 200 yards of offense. The Northwest defense stuffed Coppell all night with a countless number…

Loss doesn’t spell disaster for Coppell football

By Chris Reagan Staff Writer Losing is always a tough pill to swallow, especially when it comes to Coppell Football. It hurts the players, students and even the teachers. But it dawned on me as I was driving home from the game that many of the younger students of CHS haven’t had to deal with this feeling too often. Coppell has come a long way from the yearly losing records in the 90’s. Losing is something that just happens and it takes a true fan to stand by their team and still say we believe in them. To fans; don’t get discouraged by the loss. Coppell has played 5 games this season and every one…

The Cowboys’ nightmare continues with loss to Jacksonville

By Thomas Hair Staff Writer The Cowboys’ nightmare season that began with a loss to Washington and came to a head last week against the Giants took yet another turn for the worse in Week 8 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Cowboys had their backs against the wall but did not respond, falling to a ghastly 1-6 record. Even with surprising offensive firepower, the Boys could not keep the game close, losing 35-17.  The Cowboys, who lost QB Romo to a collarbone injury last week, had no trouble moving the ball under the helm of veteran Jon Kitna.  Once again, it seems the Cowboys have actually played decently but somehow managed to lose because of infuriating blunders and un-professional mistakes. In previous…

Cowboys lose to SGP ending season

The Coppell Cowboys lost to the South Grand Prairie Warriors Friday night, 8-2, at Highland Park, ending the team’s playoff run and season.  In the best of three Class 5A area playoffs series, the Cowboys were swept in two games after losing the opener to the Warriors, 7-6, on Thursday.                 “I was disappointed because I felt like we had an opportunity to win both games in the series,” senior captain and left fielder Zane Feemster said. “Not many people gave us a chance this year so I am proud we made a run.”                 The Cowboys swept Grapevine in the bi-district playoffs to vindicate last season’s lost to the Mustangs.  In both games…

Cavaliers ready for changes

By Andy Tabor The Cleveland Cavaliers lost Thursday night 94-85 to the Boston Celtics.  This loss already has could cost the city its biggest star; Lebron James.  What has been a tumultuous postseason with James’ elbow injury and harder than thought series against the Bulls, will now become an offseason of change for Cleveland.  The Cav’s have been one of the most prosperous franchises in all of professional sports ever since James was drafted.  Cleveland was the number one seed last season as well as this season and both have resulted in crippling losses. The Celtics were deemed “too old” to compete with the youth and spunk of James’ Cavs, but after Rajon Rondo had his landmark fourth triple double…

Cowgirls ousted early

By Andy Tabor The Coppell Cowgirls dream season was ended Thursday night in Allen.  The team was defeated by the Plano Wildcats 1-0.  The Cowgirls had many opportunities but eventually left a whopping 11 runners on base. The Cowgirls were ranked number one in the area and number nine in the nation were unable to convert during the game.  In the fourth inning, the team left the bases loaded, possible foreshadowing for their unfortunate impending loss. Plano scored their only run on a past ball in the first inning.  Both team’s pitchers gave up five hits in the game.  The Cowgirls will finish this year with a very impressive (30-3) record, although they were looking…

Girls soccer misses out on State repeat

By Andy Tabor The Coppell Cowgirls dream of becoming state champions two years running was shattered this season when they lost to McKinney Boyd 3-2 in the third round of playoffs.  The Cowgirls still had a very successful and exciting season, and the loss should propel returning players to work even harder than before. The Cowgirls entered pre-season play ranked number one in the nation, marking the first time the program had ever received this distinction in its history.  The team was levelheaded going into the season, and was ready to perform up to their ranking.  With the cocky attitude the 2008 Coppell Cowgirls No.1 state team began their season they lost multiple early season…

Rangers sour great performance in loss 3-1

By Andy Tabor The Texas Rangers once again ripped the hearts out of approximately 14,000 fans Thursday as the team dropped their last of a three game opening week series to the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1.  The team was only able to secure one win, which came opening day. The Rangers had an outstanding performance from pitcher and ex-closer C.J. Wilson who struck out nine batters over seven innings and was very efficient getting in and out of several jams with runners on base.  The Rangers bats however were not as productive as their pitcher. The Rangers did not score a run until the bottom of the seventh inning when pitcher Ricky Romero threw a…

Cowgirls dream squashed, lose 2-1

By Andy Tabor Photos by Tyler Morris The Coppell Cowgirls dream of repeating as state 5-A champs ended Tuesday night in Hebron.  The girls lost 2-1 to McKinney Boyd in regulation in a very hard fought game.  McKinney Boyd is the top team in the state and are a staggering 25-0-3. The Cowgirls only goal was a header scored by Stanford signee Chioma Obogagu to light the scoreboard up first.  The Lady Broncos Emily Reid, who is an Oklahoma commit, came down after a botched Coppell corner kick and made an amazing goal that left Coppell fans and teammates staggered.  At halftime the game was tied at 1-1 and still the Cowgirls believed that they…

Cowgirls lose to Hawks

By Andy Tabor The Coppell Cowgirls lost to the Hebron Hawks in five games Tuesday night at Hebron 25-19, 22-25, 25-21, 19-25, and 9-15.  The Cowgirls had previously beaten Southlake Carroll the Friday before for their first district win. Against Hebron, the Hawks came out with a lot of fire power and motivation.  The Cowgirls tried desperately to match the intensity but were unable to sustain many steady runs.  The Hawks are now now tied atop the district with Marcus with a 2-0 record.  The Cowgirls play Marcus Friday at home and need a win to keep pace with the 6-5A leaders.
