CLAX prepares for 2012 season
By Tanner McCord Staff Writer Fresh off of a state championship for the third season in a row, the Coppell Cowboys lacrosse team has begun practice, and will be playing its first game Feb. 17 against Episcopal Houston School. Much like the state champion volleyball team, CLAX will be starting the season with a new coach, Alex Poole, who played college lacrosse at Maryland. Poole’s eight years of coaching experience will be complemented by former player and coach of the University of Virginia, Joe Thompson. Thompson was the Cavaliers team captain in 2005 when they lost in the Final Four in an overtime game against eventual championship winner Johns Hopkins. This year’s team is made…
Lacrosse team sharpens their skills for upcoming season
By Chase Porter Staff Writer Today, January 10th, was the first day of lacrosse practice and the start of the 2012 season for the three time state championship lacrosse team. Being a member of the team I had the chance to see this years team in action and I was impressed. After losing many highly recruited players from last years team I thought that we would have to rebuild more than usual. Todays practice showed me that was not the case at all. Coppell lacrosse defends State title this weekend
By Gaby Moran Staff Writer This weekend, May 8 to May 9, Coppell boys lacrosse has their DII state tournament in Dallas where they plan to defend their 2009 State title. The Cowboys have dominated all of their opponents all season long and now just have two more games until winning the DII State title again. Coppell plays the semifinals on May 8 at 9:30 a.m. at Highland Park High School. Their South Division opponent has yet to be posted. When the Cowboys win the semifinals, the finals will be on May 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Highland Park High School. Come support the Cowboys defend their State title and win back to back seasons.
Coppell lacrosse easily moves on to State
By Gaby Moran Staff Writer After a great weekend and being named Regional Champions, Coppell boys lacrosse team is now heading for their chance for a back to back state champions this coming weekend May 8 to May 9. On May 1, the Cowboys played the Highland Park DII team and easily won 12-2. After being ahead 10-1 in the first half, Cowboys mainly played defense in the second in order to keep a high lead over the Scotts. Goals were made by juniore Trent Dennington, Preston Allison, Tyler Landis and Nate Hruby. After beating the Scotts, Coppell played Plano West on May 2 for the regional finals. Cowboys look to roll past Scots tomorrow
By Gaby Moran Staff Writer Coppell Lacrosse plays second round of playoffs tomorrow, Firday May 1. The Cowboys play Highland Park DII team at 3:30 p.m. at Hillcrest High School in Dallas. Coppell played the Scots earlier in the season and won 12-4 at home. As long as they bring the same competitiveness as last time, Cowboys should come home with a win. When the Cowboys pass the second round, Coppell is scheduled to play third round, also the regional championship game, on Sunday May 2 at Hillcrest High School again. By Gaby Moran Staff Writer Texas lacrosse teams all started first rounds of playoffs on Tuesday April 27 all across the state. Coppell played first round at Coppell Middle School West and playing on their home field was a definite advantage. The undefeated Cowboys played the Plano East Panthers first round. The Cowboys shut out the Panthers with a final score of 11-0. After a great first round, Cowboys are scheduled to play the Highland Park DII team. Lacrosse looks to finish season undefeated
By Gaby Moran Staff Writer This year, the Coppell varsity lacrosse team has not lost one of their 12 games this season. Besides not losing any games, Coppell has been able to beat their opponents with a margin greater than four points. On April 20, their last regular season game against Greenhill takes place and a win would make them the only undefeated team in the district. Besides a undefeated record, this will garentee the team a No. 1 ranking in the playoffs which will be held in Dallas this year.
