Going goo goo for Gaga’s Monster Ball concert

Ashleigh Heaton Editor-in-Chief Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball Concert: Outrageous and skimpy costumes. Borderline pornographic dance moves. Smatterings of profanity. In other words? It was amazing. The performance on March 14 at the American Airlines Center was Gaga’s second time to perform the concert in Dallas, the first being only this last summer. Though most performers would crash from such a strenuous performance schedule, Gaga can sum up her motivation: at one point in the evening, Gaga fell to the floor, breathing hard, and said, “You know, guys…I’m kind of like Tinker Bell. I need applause to live.” As per Gaga’s style, the concert is not your traditional listen-to-me-play-a-few-songs-then-leave event. Instead, Gaga opts to add a…

“Glee” features Britney Spears in latest episode

Rebecca Neumann Entertainment Editor Tonight’s eagerly awaited “Glee” lives up to the hype. The Britney Spears musical tribute features the hit songs “Toxic” and “Hit me baby one more time”, though the show does exclude some of her other popular hits. The episode centers around the club members’ hallucinations during dental procedures. Several of the characters have dream-like musical numbers where they interpret Spears’ songs and music videos. However, the fan-favorite songs “Lucky” and “Circus” were not among the songs performed. Despite this, the episode still showcased great performances and original interpretations. Lea Michele’s “Hit me baby one more time” gave a unique twist to the 90′s hit and Kevin McHale’s version of “Stronger” showed…

‘Time 100′ list released

by Melissa Brisco Staff Writer Recently, TIME magazine released their list of the top 100 most influential people of 2010. Being named to this list is an enormous honor. There were a couple of surprises, but the majority of individuals named to the list were no shock. TIME divides the individuals into categories. The categories are: Leaders, Heroes, Artists and Thinkers. Some of the big names were: Leaders: Barack Obama and Sarah Palin Heroes: Bill Clinton, Ben Stiller, Jet Li and Serena Williams Artists: Lady Gaga, Conan O’Brien, Oprah Winfrey, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Swift and Marc Jacobs Thinkers: Steve Jobs There were also plenty of people who are unheard of and relatively off the radar….

Sidekick predicts winners for 52nd Grammys

By Chris Nguyen Features Editor Let’s not get anything confused. The Grammys are by and large the worst awards show of the four, otherwise known as the EGOT (Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, Tonys) by “30 Rock” fans. They are long, drawn-out and unlike the Oscars or even Emmys, do not try to even have street cred, going for the big industry singers and bands, like Beyonce. However, I love awards show and the totally awesome Lady Gaga is a confirmed guest so count me in. Here are my predictions for this year’s ceremony. Record of the Year “Halo” Beyonce “I Gotta Feeling” The Black Eyed Peas “Use Somebody” Kings of Leon “Poker Face” Lady Gaga “You…

Latest Guilty Pleasures ’09: Pop Divas

By Angela Almeida Opinions Editor Before 2010 is welcomed into our adolescent lives, I believe it to be  important to reflect on a few recent things that have been rather defining. Putting aside good or bad, sometimes guilty is all relative. The list of the following are a compilation of some Pop Divas latest hits I can’t get enough of. 1. Shakira’s “She-Wolf” – Shake it girl is all that comes to mind. Shakira is a Columbian goddess incarnete from, hence the name, a sensual, body suit wearing wolf. This is by far one of the best work out beats. The diamond cavern, lack of clothing and pulsating beats are what make this video pretty endearing…

Lady Gaga prepares to throw a “Monster Ball” during winter tour

Ashleigh Heaton Entertainment Editor The world moaned in sorrow when Lady Gaga announced that she would be cancelling the co-headlining tour with Kayne West in January. “Boo!” they said, “We want the Gaga and all her weirdness and we want her now!” Well, now has arrived. On October 15, the pop icon announced on her blog that she would be touring this winter after all — this time, solo. Entitled “The Monster Ball” to compliment the upcoming release the repackaged The Fame album, The Monster Fame, Gaga describes the show as “a multimedia artistic experience in the style of the first-ever ‘pop electro opera’.” I expect nothing less strange from the sunglasses-obsessed, ‘hair bow’-wearing, on-stage-dying…
