Lacrosse teams look to continue early success on Tuesday
By Jay Carroll Staff Writer After both JV and Varsity lacrosse teams blew Alamo Heights out of the water on Friday, the teams will look to continue this success against the Hillcrest Panthers. During the fall season, when JV and varsity are mixed together, the Cowboys defeated Hillcrest in the semifinals of the Halloween Shootout. JV won their first game last Friday against Alamo Heights by a score of 11-1, with Andrew Braden and Drew McAdams leading the team in scoring. Andrew Braden (4 goals) hopes to repeat this outstanding performance on Tuesday. Varsity also dominated Alamo Heights with a 16-1 victory. Hillcrest is a tougher opponent than Alamo Heights and could test both Coppell teams on…

Cowboy lacrosse wins home opener, 12-4
By John Loop Staff Writer Last year’s state champions certainly looked the part in their home opener against Episcopal School of Houston, winning handily 12-4. Surprisingly, although they reached the top of the playoff pyramid last year, the Cowboys weren’t even mentioned in the high school lacrosse preseason standings. ESH was ranked number eight. “We just took down a team that was number eight in the preseason rankings,” senior midfielder Jesse Rehling said, “We are all pretty hyped to do that because we knew that we deserved to be up there and to prove it to the rest of Texas lacrosse.” Sophomore attackman Dillon Braun led all scorers with four goals, junior attackman Henry Busch…

By Chase Porter Staff Writer This friday, February 17th, the Coppell varsity lacrosse team has it season opener against Houston Episcopal. The team has been preparing since the end of winter break and now its their opportunity to go fight for another championship. With an all new coaching staff and a loss of vital players on the offense and defense this new team has to prove they can compete with the best again. Friday night they will be playing the 8th best team in the state according to texas heat lacrosse. This Houston team still has many of their past players and should be some stiff competition. Come out and watch the first game at…
Lacrosse team sharpens their skills for upcoming season
By Chase Porter Staff Writer Today, January 10th, was the first day of lacrosse practice and the start of the 2012 season for the three time state championship lacrosse team. Being a member of the team I had the chance to see this years team in action and I was impressed. After losing many highly recruited players from last years team I thought that we would have to rebuild more than usual. Todays practice showed me that was not the case at all. Even though we have an extreme amount of underclassmen this year I have confidence that we will have nothing but a successful season. Today was the first practice with the new coaching…
Lacrosse team finishes 2nd in fall tournament
By Chase Porter Staff Writer This past weekend, the varsity lacrosse team competed in the Halloween Shootout with teams from all over the Dallas. As a senior member of the team, I have had the opportunity to play in this tournament for the four years I have been on the team. This past weekend, October 29th and 30th we had a chance to play 3 games not including the semifinal game and the championship. On Saturday, we lost to ESD but won our second game against Plano West. On Sunday, we faced off against Highland Park beating them in a well fought game from both sides. With two wins under our belts we continued onto…
Lacrosse championship: inside the locker room
By Chase Porter Staff Writer Being a three year varsity lacrosse player has given me the unique chance to experience what really goes on before and after the state championship games. In the locker room everyone was pretty silent, everyone was either listening to music or just starring at the floor. Most of the seniors and starters isolated themselves and focused on the game. Finally, all the coaches called us around and we discussed the game; going over the offenses and defenses one more time just to make sure everyone had it down. After a short pep talk and a lot of yelling and banging on lockers everybody suited up and lined up in the…
Coppell boys’ Lacrosse wins state title
Rebecca Neumann Entertainment Editor Yesterday, at Woodforrest Bank Stadium, the Coppell Cowboys Lacrosse boys took on the Jesuit Rangers in the State Championship. Despite it being the first year for the team to be in Division I, the Cowboys took control and defeated the Rangers 10-8. The playoffs began earlier in the week, and just the day before the Cowboys had overcome St. Mark’s, another Dallas-area team. Though they had two state titles under their belt from the two previous years, the team had only recently made the transition from Division II to Division I, and it was doubtful, at the beginning of the season at least, that they would be able to dominate the…
Lacrosse Playoffs
By: Chris Cummins Staff Writer The Coppell Lacrosse team, a two-time Texas State Lacrosse Division II champion, is going to the state championship. The team is set to play St. Mark’s School of Texas on Saturday in a semifinal matchup is sure to be as heated and competitive as was their previous matchup, in which Coppell only came out on top in overtime. The winner will play either Episcopal School of Dallas or Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas, the other two schools still left in the tournament. What makes this tournament different from others the lacrosse team has won is the fact that it’s a Division I tournament. This means the biggest and best…
Coppell LAX advances to first DI tournament
Adam Bremner Staff Writer On Tuesday night, the Coppell Lacrosse club ousted the defending state champion Highland Park Scots, 11-7, to move into the playoffs. In what was essentially a play-in game, the Cowboys got down early in a 3-0 hole, but bounced back. With a 5-3 deficit in the third quarter, Coppell stringed together seven straight goals, which all but ended the match. Trent Dennington, a student from Colleyville, put four balls in the back of the net, while Syracuse commit Brandon Mullins shut down the Scots’ Campbell Sody, who is a Rutgers commit. Now the Cowboys enter the Texas High School Lacrosse League Division I bracket that consists of 12 highly-skilled teams from…
