By Jane Kim Staff Writer Sarah Meador, the music teacher at Cottonwood Creek Elementary, was an evacuee of Hurricane Katrina. It was her senior year of college at Loyola University New Orleans, and the hurricane hit on the first day of school. “The weekend we were preparing for the new school year, we were watching the weather every day,” Meador said. “We were watching the news broadcast every day, we were tracking the hurricane as it approached New Orleans.” Meador’s plan was to pack $500 cash and fill up her car; all the while, her dad, in Coppell, was trying to get her on a flight home. Saints march into season with pride

Rebecca Neumann Staff Writer Last night, the Super Bowl champions returned to the field in style. Well, for the first quarter at least. The opening drive of the night ended in a fabulous touchdown by Drew Brees. The Superdome erupted into applause that was laced with more than just team pride. Their cheers went out to their entire recovering city. After suffering the tragedy Hurricane Katrina left in its wake, New Orleans, five years later, is making progress.
