IB students host Four-Letter Word Tournament to wrap up fundraising

by Divya Kumar News Editor As part of an ongoing process to raise money for their International Project, the junior International Baccalaureate class of Coppell High School hosted its final fundraiser on May 24 for the Three Cups of Tea Organization, which raises money to provide education for girls in Middle Eastern countries. Preceding this event, the students had held two fundraisers: a hot chocolate sale and a garage sale. Obtaining a mere $40 from the hot chocolate fundraiser, a rather spirit-crushing amount, the garage sale helped to improve attitudes, yielding $990.98. National Honor Society admits new members

By Ashley Attanucci Staff Writer Video by Matt French and Robert Brancheau Coppell High School’s National Honor Society admitted 150 new members this year to its Excalibur chapter, including 19 seniors, 12 juniors and 110 sophomores. The Induction Ceremony, held last night, included the inductees, officers and many proud parents. Principal Brad Hunt opened the ceremony with a warm welcome, followed by the traditional lighting of the candles (a candle for each characteristic of scholarship, character, service and leadership) and an announcement of the candidates led by sponsor Jeb Puryear who handed each candidate a certificate of membership. Applicants were required to have maintained a grade point average, or GPA, of 4.8 or higher to be considered…

International Baccalaureate students go to Goatman’s Bridge

By Viviana Trevino Staff Photographer The legend of Goatman’s Bridge: Goatman’s Bridge holds an elaborate history that was established in  1884. Oscar Washburn, an African-American goat farmer, lived in the area of what is now Denton, TX. After Mr.Washburn displayed a sign by the bridge which led to his home, townspeople were angered. A few days later, the same townspeople dragged the goatman out of his house and hung him under the bridge. Once they looked down however, they saw that his body was not there. In a panic, the murderers killed the rest of the goatman’s family in cold blood. Legend says that those who cross the bridge without headlights will sight the goatman…

By Julia Kim Staff Writer National Honor Society partnered once again with Carter BloodCare to organize the blood drive at CHS that took place in the south gym on Wednesday, Oct. 7. This was the first of two blood drives at the high school, the next to follow in spring. NHS officers volunteered at the blood drive along with professionals from Carter BloodCare to host a successful drive. Although students had the option to do walk-ins, most began signing up a week before in preparation for the event. “This is actually my second time giving blood,” senior Grayson Akerly said. “I saw upperclassmen doing it and I wanted to be a part of that.” NHS…
