The Dallas Cowboys is America’s team. but at the moment it appears that America just wants the team to forfeit for this season.

From the start, the season was going down the drain with their first game being a loss. The second game they came out and beat the Houston Texans but I think Jerry Jones just paid the other owner so they could get a win under their belts. From then on their season has continued to go down hill with their most resent loss coming from the Jacksonville Jaguars who intercepted 4 of Kitna’s passes.

Why are they playing like pee-wee football players, you ask? To be honest with you I can’t really pin point a specific reason but there are many contributing factors. One, Romo, the starting quarter back for the Cowboys, and apparently the only one who gets to participate in practice, is out for the season with a broken clavicle. Two, I have never thought of the Cowboys of having any heart when they play the game; I feel like they just play for the show. Finally, I think our offensive line kind of bites. From what I saw during the Jacksonville game they were just letting people run through; they need to start taking pressure off of Kitna so he doesn’t throw so many interceptions.

The Cowboys’ nightmare season that began with a loss to Washington and came to a head last week against the Giants took yet another turn for the worse in Week 8 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Cowboys had their backs against the wall but did not respond, falling to a ghastly 1-6 record. Even with surprising offensive firepower, the Boys could not keep the game close, losing 35-17. The Cowboys, who lost QB Romo to a collarbone injury last week, had no trouble moving the ball under the helm of veteran Jon Kitna.

Once again, it seems the Cowboys have actually played decently but somehow managed to lose because of infuriating blunders and un-professional mistakes. In previous games, it has been penalties, but in their most recent loss, turnovers were the root of the problem. Despite throwing for an astounding 379 yards, Kitna also threw 4 interceptions which, along with the weak defense, was a prime contributor to Sunday’s failures. Most of these interceptions were not due to any mistake on 38 year old kitna’s part, but rather the wide receivers who tended to tip balls up in the air or let them fly straight through their hands.

Even the most optimistic of Cowboy fans must now admit that the season is over, with still over half of it to go. Their record stands at 1-6, and any NFL fan would know that a 10-6 record is lowest record to nearly garauntee a playoff appearance. This means that to secure a playoff spot and salvage the season, Dallas would need to win their remaining games. With teams like Green Bay, Indianapolis, and New Orleans on the horizon, this possibility is extremely unlikely.

The best bet for fans now is to hope for a record better than 1-15, wish Romo a speedy recovery, hope no one else gets hurt, and hope Jerry Jones will have the sense to get rid of Wade Phillips and Jason Garrett over the offseason.

The Coppell football team stamped their first round ticket against Keller by beating the Flower Mound Jaguars Friday night, 45-24.

Coppell was led on offense by senior quarterback Hayden Hawk. Hawk had 353 yards throwing and four touchdowns in the game, cementing himself as a top quarterback in district 6-5A. Hawk also led the Cowboys to one of Coppell’s best records ever.

“At the beginning of the year I thought this was a possibility.” Hawk said. “To see that it came true is a great accomplishment.”

To start the game however, Flower Mound looked like the sharper team, scoring on their opening drive of the game. They held the Cowboys to a mere field goal and continued their aerial assault on the Cowboys.

Flower Mound junior quarterback Paul Millard had a great game throwing for 431 yards and three touchdowns in a losing effort. Millard would be right on target to his receivers but then the Coppell line-backing corp and safeties were ready to punish the Jaguar receivers.

Junior line-backer Brandon Mullins had an amazing game with 14 tackles and an interception that led to a Coppell score at the end of the second quarter to give the Cowboys momentum going into halftime.

The second half was all Coppell as they used the momentum built before the half to pummel and out score the Jaguars 21-7 in the final half.

The Cowboys now have the Keller Indians to get ready for in their opening first round match up. Junior Cam McDaniel may be a key performer in these playoffs, getting a chance to start this season with the absence of Evans Okatcha.

“Looking at the bracket, I really like our chances to go far,” McDaniel said. “We will have to play perfect football against talented opponents but being in such a tough district should have prepared us for tough match-ups.”

If the Cowboys want to go far, many think they should stick to their strategy during the season, hoping their suffocating defense and high powered offense will boost them into rounds that no other Coppell team before has experienced.
