Open enrollment brings new students to CISD
By Kelly Stewart Opinions Editor CISD elementary schools are seeing some new faces this year with the help of Open Enrollment. A plan implemented by the board of directors to increase enrollment in Cottonwood Creek and Town Center elementary schools (known as open enrollment) is allowing students who do not live in the district to attend Coppell schools. The offer is open to all elementary school students who live in the City of Coppell, but already 68 students have taken advantage of this decision since it was made in the spring of 2011. “[This plan] allows students in the K-5th grade that live in the City of Coppell, but outside of Coppell ISD the opportunity…

Hunt becomes new face of DCCCD
Satvika Ananth Staff Writer If you happen to drive down state highway 114, brace yourself for a surprise, because you may see the friendly face of Coppell High School Principal Brad Hunt staring back at you from a billboard. Taking place from Feb. 15-17, eighth graders throughout CISD ventured outside of their CMS North, East and West comfort zones to bravely face the unknowns of high school. During the scheduled visits to their next home away from home, the incoming freshman class was able to familiarize itself with the unique facets of campus, such…
Dorhout sheds dragon skin to become proud Cowgirl
By Loren Hughes Staff Writer Last December, Coppell High School’s former associate principal P.J. Giamanco turned in his red and black for Southlake green. This year, the school’s new associate principal Leanne Dorhout has done the complete opposite, transforming from a Dragon to a Cowboy. Before coming to CHS, Dorhout’s school days were full of adventure, something not many high school students can say for themselves. Raised in Iowa, Dorhout spent the better part of her junior year of high school studying overseas in Norway. She also studied in Wales during her college years, before graduating from Central College in Iowa with a degree in English. “I loved high school,” Dorhout said. “My high school…
