By Addy Buigas-Lopez Business Manager Being a part of the National Honor Society means more than simply having a high GPA and being involved in many extracurricular activities; it means getting involved in the community and volunteering for the benefit of others. Over the course of the year, NHS members are required to get a certain amount of volunteer hours. To ensure that there will not be a scramble for volunteer opportunities at the end of the year, president Haley Beck and sponsor Kevin Casey require a check point at the end of the first semester where everyone needs to have 5 group volunteer hours and 5 individual volunteer hours. Coppell volunteer opportunites

Luckily, Coppell’s volunteer opportunities are not limited, and there is always a way for students to lend a helping hand. Special Olympics Ask any teacher or parent: There is nothing like watching a smile spread from ear to ear on a child’s face as they succeed in what others told them could not be done, and standing by them as they grow to reach that point. NHS community service opportunities

National Honor Society is offering many upcoming group hour opportunities. First and foremost, benefting CHS directly, is month trash pick-up at the school. The first Saturday of each month, NHS members are to meet at the high school to pick up trash outside around the school; check in with an officer outside the gym. Volunteers are also needed at the Destination Imagination competition at the school on Friday and Saturday (6-10 pm; and 7:30-12 pm or 12-4:30 pm) for shifts. The spring blood drive is next month, April 8. NHS members are to check Blackboard for updates and shadowing sign-up will be at the next NHS meeting, April 1st.
