CHS clubs seek to help community

Tolu Salako Staff Writer Coppell has always been there to help others in need whether children or adults. Recently many CHS clubs have been doing just that. Student Council has been collecting arts and crafts supplies for Children’s medical Center while the Cross Country Team has been and is still collecting brightly colored socks to honor Veronica Sheer for those in the women’s shelter. In addition, HOSA is raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and as an incentive will give the fourth period class with the most money a pasta party from Olive Garden. Pasta for Pennies

By Sarah Police Staff Writer The annual Pasta for Pennies drive has begun at CHS. Fourth period teachers have introduced the Pasta for Pennies fundraiser, which will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. These organizations strive to help patients with blood cancer live a longer, fuller life. Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) is sponsoring this drive. HOSA’s goal is one dollar per student. There will be an envelope in every fourth period class to donate your loose change. The class with the most money raised will receive a free pasta party, courtesy of Olive Garden.

HOSA works to wrap up the year

Julia Kim Staff Writer HOSA is hosting a bake sale at Ace Hardware this Sat., April 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All proceeds from this fundraiser will be donated to Relay for Life. The club’s last meeting will also be held tomorrow after school in room A110. Members running for an officer position should have a speech prepared for the officer elections. In addition, HOSA will briefly discuss Relay for Life in order to prepare for the night.

HOSA to hold car wash and continue fundraising efforts

Julia Kim Staff Writer On Sat., April 16, HOSA will host a car wash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m at 7-Eleven. All funds raised at this event will be directly donated to Relay for Life. Time spent volunteering at this event will also count for service hours for NHS. The next HOSA meeting will be held on Wed., April 20, and those interested in applying for an officer position should prepare a speech. Students raise pennies for patients once again

These pennies have been everywhere at school now for the past two weeks. The Pennies for Patients campaign at Coppell High School has wrapped up this week. The fundraiser began the week of Feb. 28 and is a School & Youth Project benefitting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This organization is dedicated to finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and the change contributes to blood cancer research around the world. HOSA holds high hopes for online testing

Julia Kim Staff Writer On Dec. 6 and 7, HOSA will conduct online testing, which serves as the Area competition for the organization. Testing will be held throughout both days, and the time limit for most tests is one or one and a half hours. This essentially serves as a qualifier exam for the State and National competitions. Health Science events (including dental spelling, dental terminology, medical spelling, medical terminology, medical math and knowledge tests), health professions events (including biotechnology, clinical nursing, dental assisting, home health aide, medical assisting, nurse assisting, physical therapy, sports medicine and veterinary assisting), emergency preparedness events (including CPR/First Aid and CERT), teamwork events and recognition tests will be administered using…

HOSA to “run” preparations at the Dallas White Rock Marathon

Julia Kim Staff Writer The annual Dallas White Rock Marathon will take place this Sun., Dec. 5, beginning at a new location this year: Fair Park. The CHS HOSA Club will volunteer at Aid Station 14 and prepare to serve water and Gatorade for thousands of runners; this is another year in which the club has participated in this event. The run begins at 8:00 a.m., but the school’s volunteers have planned to meet at the CHS field house at 6:00 a.m. in order to carpool to their station located near White Rock Lake. HOSA to hold second meeting

By Julia Kim Staff Writer The Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) will hold their second meeting tomorrow, Sept. 14. It will be held in Ms. Brinkman’s old (now Mr. Pool’s) room A110 in the afternoon. Officers will collect dues and introduce incoming projects (the Whiterock Marathon) and competitive events. In addition, those interested in designing a HOSA t-shirt must have their design submitted by tomorrow to Dishali Patel. The student whose shirt is selected will receive two hours of community service. HOSA is a student-led organization encouraging and promoting career opportunities in health-related fields. It effectively helps students have exposure to a field that they may be potentially interested in.

First HOSA meeting of the year
