Bye week builds Homecoming hype

By Ben Cowlishaw Staff Writer Varsity and JV-A have a bye this week, building anticipation for next week’s game against Saginaw, which is Homecoming as well as the first week of district play. As the Cowboys seek to have another extremely successful year, the expectation is for them to crush Saginaw next Friday and protect their 3-0 record. With a relatively young offense, the prospect of repeating last year is a challenge the Cowboys are facing with determination. The win against Jesuit proved exciting yet disheartening as the game was decided in just the last few minutes. The Friday night lights will be off this week, as students prepare for another exciting homecoming, themed “Please…

Prom: how did you get asked?

Ashley Attanucci Web Manager Molly Robben “I was leaving school and walking to my car when I noticed something in it. As I got closer I realized there balloons in it. I had no idea what was going on. It was filled to the top with balloons and there wasn’t anything else, so I called Philip Hanson and he told me to go home. I wasn’t expecting anything at all. It was a total surprise, especially when all my friends, family and some of my teachers were in on the plan without me knowing. Around 500 balloons filled my car and room and some of the balloons in my room had notes in them, so…

Mesquite’s homecoming disaster

If there is one day out of the year where dress code is not applied at Coppell High school it’s at the homecoming dance. Girls are often able to get in with no problem despite how closely their dresses resembles nothing. So I was a bit surprised to read that Mesquite high school decided to buckle down this year and turn down around 50 girls the opportunity to go into the dance based on their attire. I feel as if I must intrude and make a few points. Homecoming is basically a night for all of the students of a school to get together and dance way to close to one another. With this said,…

Students and teachers ride with Cowboy Pride in annual Homecoming Parade

By Michelle Pitcher Opinions Editor Video by Wren Culp and Mason Adams. Footage courtesy of Adam Borel Coppell residents of all ages braved the heat on Thursday, Sept. 9, to take part in the annual Coppell High School Homecoming Parade. Many changes were made this year in order to improve safety as well as the overall experience for viewers and participants alike. Although the parade did not start until 6:15 p.m., floats began lining up in the Verizon parking lot at 5:00 to claim the coveted first spots in the parade line-up. While waiting, some organizations put the finishing touches on their floats, while others socialized and observed other entries. Morale was high amongst the…

By Abby Drake Staff Writer While some Coppell high school students went to the homecoming dance last Saturday night others rocked out at the Super pages.com Center at the Dave Matthews Band Concert. The concert was a spectacular show and the lights, effects and atmosphere flowed perfectly to the beats of the band’s exciting songs. The set list from the concert was full of Dave Matthews Band’s most famous and catchy songs such as; “Last Stop”, “Shake Me Like a Monkey”, “Corn Bread”, and a crowd favorite “You and Me.” The show was great and all of the fans were very pleased as you could tell by their wide smiles and dancing bodies in the…

Party in the U.S.A succeeds

Kimberly Del Angel Staff Writer Saturday night, hundreds of students piled in to The Omni hotel in Las Colinas to have fun and dance. Long tables of scrumptious appetizers and desserts littered tables in the hallways to satisfy students needs; two bars on oppisite sides of the dance floor also offered mulitiple drinks to the crowd. The dance began at 7 pm and continued on until 11 pm, giving students plenty of time to socialize and get their groove on. It ended with a bang, as the song “I love you” by Barney was played to dismiss students. Students tittled homecoming 2010 “The best ever” on Facebook as they updated their statuses later in the night.

A Party in the U.S.A

by Ashley Attanucci Staff Writer This past weekend for Coppell was marked with everything Homecoming –the parade, the football game and, for students, the Homecoming dance, appropriately themed “Party in the U.S.A”. While students were dancing Saturday night away at the Omni Mandalay Hotel at Las Colinas, they did not forget to remember the ninth year anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Midway through the dance, the music stopped as Principal Hunt took over the mic to commemorate the tragedy. After Alanna Diggs, junior, and Kaci Carroll, sophomore, sang the National Anthem, students observed a moment of silence for remembrance. 9/11 –we shall never forget.

Homecoming: A social playing field

By Erica Rohde Staff Writer Homecoming is a huge deal at Coppell High School. It ties into an entire week with themes and decorations. If homework isn’t on your mind when you get home from the long day at school, then Homecoming is. I would rate it one of the most stressful weeks of the year, socially. My friend had to be a perfect example. It’s her junior year, and she had been skipping out on the Homecoming dances, or just the celebration over all, because she felt she had to have a date to go and enjoy herself.  But this year someone asked her. She had to be the happiest I had ever seen…

What makes homecoming truly remarkable?

Addy Buigas-Lopez Staff Writer Spirit reverberates through the many hallways lining the school as students make their way through the throng of people gathered at every corner, wearing their handmade mums and garders that jingle with every step. Homecoming: the tradition of welcoming back alumni to school, working up the courage to stutter out your homecoming proposal to the date of your choice, displaying your school spirit by participating in dress up days and showing off the way you dance Saturday night. But what is it that makes homecoming truly remarkable? Every year people spend weeks in preparation for homecoming. Football players trudge through day after day of tedious practice for the big game; couples…
