CHS homecoming traditions becoming grotesque
Group Editorial Texas: undeniably home to the bigger and the better. In fact, its High schools embody the lone star state’s timeless stereotype every fall because fall is homecoming season, which in this state, is prepared for and anxiously awaited as if it were a traditional holiday. If Coppell High School took the carefully crafted mums and garters made by the students for a grade, homecoming would be quite beneficial to students’ report cards. However, teenage girls lose hours of sleep to make their garter on a social account rather than an extracurricular one. In Texas, kids uphold a tradition that wouldn’t make sense to Midwesterners who would find the whole idea rather obnoxious. But…

Theme days reflect student creativity, interests
By Madison Ford Entertainment Editor With homecoming week under way, the traditional ‘theme’ days have allowed many students to show their school spirit by dressing according to each day’s theme. This year’s homecoming theme is ‘Please Don’t Stop the Music’, and the theme days that accompany it let students express their musical tastes. Monday’s theme was ‘Wear Your Favorite Band T-shirt’ which resulted in students and teachers alike wearing a shirt honoring their favorite musical group. Today’s theme, ‘Dress Like a Pop Star’ resulted in a variety of interesting outfits, from Lady Gagas to Ke$has and 80′s pop stars. The theme days for the rest of week include ‘Dress Like a Rock Star’ on Wednesday,…
Homecoming Havoc
By John Loop Staff Writer Coppell High School won’t be the only one grooving on the dance floor for the Homecoming dance this Saturday night. Three other schools are having their dances as well. Flower Mound, Cistercian, and Jesuit are getting down on Saturday night. Many of the restaurants near the Omni Mandalay Hotel, where Coppell is hosting their dance this year, are running out of reservation space. This includes I Fratelli Restaurant and Bar, which is expecting large parties of kids squeezing in for dinner before partying long into the night. Coppell’s Homecoming dance is from 7-11 p.m.
Kicking off Homecoming with a great parade
Jordan Bickham Staff Writer Homecoming week is always an exciting part of the year, getting the community ready for the upcoming school year. Most students enjoy almost every aspect of it, the football game, the dance, the mums and garters. But what kicks everything off? The homecoming parade. Varying from previous years, the homecoming parade was on Monday, Sept. 19 of homecoming week instead of the Thursday before the game. This caused a bit of confusion, since most couples trade garter and mums after the parade before Friday, but the parade was still a hit. Floats varied in size, color, and theme depending on the people riding it. There were floats overflowing with football players,…

This event will be sure to have the students saying, ‘please don’t stop…
Homecoming King race heats up
By Lance McCaskey Staff Writer As the week before homecoming draws to a close, the race for homecoming king has taken a shocking and dramatic turn. Along with the expected candidates, there was a surprise upset moved onto the ballot of five. Vern Zhang. While most may have laughed him off, and given him no thought, a group of students has rallied around Zhang. From funny pictures and videos on Facebook, to tee shirts sporting the unofficial “Vote for Vern” slogan and symbol, Vern Zhang seems to look like a front runner this year for the prestigious honor of Homecoming King. Don’t be surprised if this Cinderella story comes true at the Homecoming dance on…
