SLCfootball

By Julianne Cauley News Editor Every two years, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) realigns the state’s athletic districts. This morning, Coppell was placed in District 5-5A with some familiar foes. Distrct 5-5A Coppell Denton Ryan Lewisville Lewisville Flower Mound Lewisville Hebron Lewisville Marcus Coppell is currently in District 7-5A with Southlake Carroll, Keller, Keller Fossil Ridge, Keller Central, Denton Guyer, Saginaw and Justin Northwest. The traditional rivalry between Coppell and Southlake Carroll will not occur in district play in the new alignment. However, the school is in Region I along with Coppell and they could go head-to-head in the playoffs or non-district play. Additional realigned districts and regions can be found here.

Cowgirls win thriller against Hebron

By Seth Slover Staff Writer A highly anticipated game met and exceeded its hype.  Coppell and Hebron fought for the right to advance to Abilene for the fourth round. Game one and game two were close and highly entertaining.  Game one began with Coppell jumping out to an early lead, just to see the Hawks storm back to tie the game at 11.  Hebron fans were by far the more loud, energized of the two schools’ fans.  The Cowgirls ended up losing game one off a missed spike by senior Kierra Holst. The Hawks came storming out to begin game two, jumping out to a 7-1 lead.  The Cowgirls fought back, largely due to the…

Soccer playoffs: Girls prevail over Plano West, Boys lose to Hebron in OT

Adam Bremner Staff Writer In the first round of the soccer playoffs tonight, both the Cowboys and Cowgirls took the field with high hopes of moving much further than just the bidistrict round. The Cowgirls were able to edge Plano West, 1-0, punning their ticket to the next round. Senior standout Chioma Ubogagu put the game-winner in the back of the net, which was enough as keeper Kailey Hicks was able to secure a shutout. With the boys having a late kick-off at 8 p.m., the girls were able to arrive to cheer on the Cowboys in what was a 0-0 game in the last minutes of regulation against Hebron. Shortly after, the Cowboys entered…

Coppell seniors to be honored on Senior night against Hebron

By Andy Tabor The Coppell Cowboys Tuesday will be primarily looking for a big district 6-5A victory but also will be concerned with sending their seniors off with one final home game.  Senior’s Zane Feemster, Will Abbott, Parker Hutchins, Quinn Hernandez, and Josh Montgomery will all be honored before the Hebron game. The Cowboys so far have swept Hebron going 2-0 against the Hawks this year, and to get a season sweep would solidify their positioning in the second seeding of district.  The team wasn’t predicted to be this high in the district standings, but the young Cowboys have played beyond expectations and have the chemistry to go far in the state playoffs. The Cowboys…

Cowboy season ends in bitter fashion

By Andy Tabor The Coppell Cowboys had done what no other team this entire year had done; tied Jesuit through regulation and two intense overtime periods.  With junior goalie Chris Hinze leading the battle cry the cowboys looked to beat the area, state, and nations top team. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, their amazing dream ended in anti-climactic fashion losing in a shootout 3-0.  Jesuit never missed a goal while Coppell struggled with the dribble down format of the shootout. The format was that the offensive player would start at the 35 yard line and they would have five seconds to get a shot off or else the shot would not count.  A referee would blow…

Cowboys look to snap scoring drought for playoff push

By Gaby Moran Staff Writer With half the district season over and playoffs coming around the corner, Coppell boys soccer still has not gotten to their full potential. With four more games left until the season is over, Coppell has many crucial games including a Feb. 26 game against Hebron whom Coppell is tied with for the fourth ranking spot. “We beat Hebron last time but anything can happen and we just have to go out there and starting scoring more,” senior captain Jordan Elgin said. Coppell has had a problem with scoring goals this year. Last year, the team scored a total of 11 goals in the first half of the district games while…

Coppell takes on Hebron in district home opener

By Travis Bremner Staff Writer Nothing starts out a season quite like a victory over your biggest rival. That’s exactly what Coppell did last Friday night knocking off Southlake Carroll 41-31 in the district opener. Now the Cowboys (13-10, 1-0) come home to face Hebron who will be hungry to nab their first win of the district season. The Hawks (13-9, 0-1) didn’t play well in their loss to Flower Mound, 47-32 last week. Senior guard Andrew Bourg was the only Coppell player to score in double figures in their win over Southlake with 10, his points per game average is just above that at 10.3, which leads the team. Hebron is lead offensively by…

Cowgirls wrap up wild season with loss to Hebron

By Andy Tabor The Coppell Cowgirls through adversity and a tough district, had a very successful season.  Although expectations may have been higher going into the season due to things beyond the Cowgirls control, they finished with their heads held high. Losing to a very talented Hebron Hawks team shouldn’t diminish any positive accomplishment the Cowgirls did this season.  Starting out pre- season, the Cowgirls were considered a top 20 team in the state of Texas. With three division one college commits and a returning all-state libero, the Cowgirls looked for big things.  Early in the season, the Cowgirls won the consolation championship against long time foe Plano West. The next weekend, the team finished…
