Patients deserve dignity in death, euthanasia
Thomas Hair Online Copy Editor My great-grandfather was once a brilliant man. He was a sagacious scholar and pastor, a loving husband and father. Unfortunately, I never truly knew this man. For my entire life I have known him only as the perpetually confused man with a hacking cough. Now, at 93 and expected to pass away at any time, my once-proud grandfather’s Alzheimer’s Disease has peaked to where he can no longer perform basic bodily functions on his own. The past dozen years have been miserable for him, but they have also taken a huge toll on my great-grandmother – who has had to care for him single-handedly. I almost get the sense that his…
Texting in class can connect students to serious trouble
By Kristen Shepard Staff Writer It is the same case everyday: a monotonous lecture by that teacher whose voice bores you to death. It seems almost impossible not to pull out your phone and send a quick message to your friend or parent or boyfriend. Before you know it, you’ve texted up a storm, all in the middle of class. Even if your teacher doesn’t spot you, texting in class can lead to serious problems in school and later in life. Whether it is a quick message to your parents about tutoring or a shout-out to your best friend, texting in class is controversial to teachers, parents and students. And in an age where texting…
CHS vending machines save lives
Lunch time is not lunch time for all of us. For my fellow procrastinators, or as I like to refer to as ‘crafty planners,’ lunch is considered an extra thirty minutes to do homework that was boycotted the night before. So in that thirty minutes I am always rushing. Despite what I convince myself, I am horrible with timing things correctly. it is safe to say I never have time to grab lunch on my way to 5th period like I think I will. Thankfully, this school happens to be equipped with a few decent vending machines. If you can’t find anything moderately nutritious in the two candy bar dispensors, you will always manage to find something tasty but not too guilt-worthy in the other three….
Anatomy classes to raise awareness for pressing health issues
By Addy Buigas-Lopez Business Manager After discussing the many health issues arising in America, Anatomy teacher Jodie Deinhammer puts her students up to the challenge of addressing these problems. In small groups, students are to pick an issue – whether it is a disease that needs more research or a societal problem. Together they create a campaign to raise awareness and pose possible steps towards a solution. In the end, they will be presenting their campaign to Deinhammer and, if they qualify, members of the organization that would help make their campaign a reality.

False tanning methods radiate dangerous skin problems
Kara Adkins Staff Writer To escape the winter season, many girls at Coppell High School are turning to tanning beds in order to get that desired summer glow. However, the price of beauty, in this case, is very steep. Although many tan to look and feel better about themselves, there are serious health concerns with tanning. Tanning machines omit ultraviolet radiation that can cause skin cancer. If one tans frequently, it is even possible for them to receive up to 12 times the UV radiation they would receive from normal sun exposure. With that said, teens still take the health risks as a grain of salt. “I just feel like I should always be tan….

Though more than 2,500 Americans reported having been poisoned by the plagued eggs since May 1, Coppellians seemed not to be affected.
