Harry Potter stars make new names for themselves
By Jordan Bickham Staff Writer The Harry Potter film franchise has been a huge part of culture all over the world since the first movie premiered in 2001, and it has continued to play a significant role in entertainment today, even with the conclusion of the series. But the actors are finally putting the series behind them, moving on and beginning new projects that stray away from what the actors are known for. Many fans are upset the series is over, but truly devoted fans of the cast are willing to follow them even as they move on to new projects. “It is saddening, but they are growing up and we are growing up with them,”…
The end of the Harry Potter era
By Tolu Salako Staff Writer Rewind 10 years to Nov. 16, 2001 when millions of kids around the world wear their best black polo blouses and appropriately colored house ties. Boys draw their best lightning scar on the right side of their forehead while girls try their best to look like 11-year-old Hermione Granger. Kids of all ages drag their parents to the nearest theatre to watch the worldwide phenomenon of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” Fast forward to July 15, 2011 when teenagers drive to Cinemark Vista Ridge or AMC Grapevine Mills Theatre to wait outside for more than two hours for the end of the movie series. Students sit through the movie…
CHS Potter fans pick wandwork over schoolwork
Rebecca Neumann Entertainment Editor On Nov. 19, a more than usual amount of students were caught napping in class, a phenomena caused by Potter-induced sleep deprivation. There is a good chance that you were one of the many who attended the midnight premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 the night before at nearby theaters like Cinemark Vista Ridge or AMC Grapevine. Hundreds of fans some decked out like wizards, some sporting Muggle (non-magical persons) clothing, lined up for hours and waited for the premiere of the first chapter of the final movie based off the epic series by J.K Rowling. Even though most fans arrived between 8 and 9 p.m., lines…
Harry Potter not sacrilegious, Hair says
Emma Hair Copy Editor There are many people in this world who make snap-judgments about things because of their religion. The first thing that comes to mind is the shocking number of people who have yet to read the Harry Potter series because they heard it contains witchcraft, and, apparently, that automatically makes it a terrible thing to read. The most vocally disapproving group is Christians, often speaking out about the “evils” of Harry Potter. This tendency for Christians to judge wonderful literature without having any background knowledge on the subject is an unfortunate fault. If you are one those people who have not read Harry Potter because you have been told that it is…

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1
By Jane Kim Staff Writer The newest Harry Potter theatrical trailer was just released last night. The whole cast is back in this last installation of the very successful movie series based on the wildly popular book series by J.K. Rowling. Since book 7 was so long, the producers had to cut it down into two movies. The first half is set to release on November 19 and the second is going to be released on July 15, 2011. My first impression of the trailer was, “Wow”. The trailer contains very suspenseful scenes and little snippets of the many action scenes that are sure to be epic. Voldemort has taken control of the Ministry of…
Potter-mania revived with “A Very Potter Sequel”
Ashleigh Heaton Editor-in-Chief Last year, I wrote a story about a little YouTube production from Starkid Productions called “A Very Potter Musical”. If you can’t tell by the tone of the article (or by the fact that I dedicated an entire article to the production,) I’m kind of in love with this show. So imagine, if you will, my excitement upon hearing that Starkid had followed up on their internet success and made a sequel, appropriately titled “A Very Potter Sequel“. Here’s a good image: I screamed. Loudly. I literally did not sleep for a few nights, staying up in to the wee hours of the night to watch as much of the show as…
Theme Park Riles Pot-Heads
by Ellen Cameron Staff Writer Harry Potter fan, affectionately called “pot-heads” are preparing for the opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando, a new theme park that will open in June of this year. Some call it Harry Potter land. I call it heaven. Th theme park, which has received much media attention in recent months, will feature famous Harry Potter places such as Hogwarts castle — complete with dungeons and green houses — the only wizarding village in the world, Hogsmeade, and Diagon Alley. The theme park will feature shops, rides, and even guest rooms in the Three Broomsticks Inn. The only thing predicted to ruin the effect is the fact…
Percy Jackson is my new BFF
“Read it!” My friend Krysia urged me. “It’s like Harry Potter in mythology!” She was right; it was amazing. I borrowed the first book, The Lightning Thief, from her on Friday morning and finished it that night. The next, The Sea of Monsters, took me two days because I had less time to read it. I started the third last period when I was supposed to reading a poem in English. But don’t tell Mrs. Krueger that. I’ll admit, they aren’t the best the best books ever written, but they’re young adult fiction, and for young adult fiction, they’re superb, never mind the one mistake my friend made a point of correcting in her copy. And…
