Clever Halloween costumes
by Abby Drake Staff writer Halloween is this Sunday night, and it is time for everyone to find the perfect costume. There is an endless supply of ideas, and I have searched through the web and have compiled what I think are the most clever costumes of 2010. To dress up as a highway dress in all black and add yellow dash marks up the center of your body to create the appearance of a road. To add a three dimensional effect glue toys cars and road signs to your pants and shirt. If you do not have time for an elaborate costumes try being a nudist on strike or “undecided”. To be a nudist…
Halloween and Sunday connected
Kelly Stewart Staff Writer Is it just me, or does anyone else think that it’s weird that Halloween is on a Sunday this year? Of course, that is just how the calendar days fell, I know, but it seems like Sunday and Halloween just don’t mix. For me, Sunday has been traditionally about dressing up nicely, going to church and generally being solemn and polite the entire day. It seems funny that Halloween fell on a Sunday this year, because Halloween is all about dressing up in weird costumes and acting like an idiot for an entire night. But the funny thing is some aspects of Halloween are influenced by a Catholic celebration, All Saints’…
Costumes take over Coppell
by Shelby Jurca Staff Writer Coppell might not be filled with spooky Halloween legends and haunting ghosts, but it’s definitely a town filled with Halloween spirit. It’s a time where citizens can dress in anything they want and no one judges you for it. As more pumpkins, bats, ghouls and cats go up in local front yards, more students scramble around for the perfect Halloween costume. Some Coppell kids have come up with brilliant ideas for their Halloween attire. Last year, there was everything from Barack Obama to the class nerd. This year there are new and different costumes out on the market, such as costumes from Disney’s 2010 Alice in Wonderland and James Cameron’s…

Halloween Haunt: Costumes of the season
By Michael Pankonien Staff Writer Video by Courtney Powell Halloween has once again held up to the expectations and momentous build up that it is traditionally subjected to each year: the candy was delicious, the mood was eerie, and of course – the costumes were out of this world. Costumes were for young and old alike this year as many people dressed up either for the traditional event of trick-or-treating or going to a party and showing off their costume. The street was filled with lions, witches, Frankensteins and the ever so popular, Optimus Prime. “I usually just go out and buy a nice store made costume, but this year I decided to do something…
Students make most of Halloween on Saturday
By Amanda Peck Staff Writer Video By Victoria Fleming Some people believe that the older they get, the less there is to do for Halloween. Coppell students proved this idea wrong by entertaining themselves with a variety of activities this year on the holiday. Even though the majority of people at Coppell High School attended some type of Halloween party, there were many other fun options available to students. “I was at the OSU vs. Texas game this Halloween,” senior Karli Reichert said. “Even though OSU lost, it was still so much fun. At first, I thought I would regret being gone for Halloween, but the game was a blast and I got the opportunity…
A Trick for some, but a treat for many
By: Henna Khan Staff Writer The sugar buzz, the funny costumes, and the festive decorations all lead up to one holiday in particular; Halloween. What’s so evil about it? For several it’s nothing, but for some celebrating “All Hallow’s Eve” conflicts quite greatly with religious beliefs. Let’ go back a couple of centuries to when the idea of Halloween actually began. The Romans worshiped various gods and on Oct. 31, a special feast was held in honor of Pomona, goddess of the fruit trees. However, Celtic priests in Britain made this feast an even more extensive celebration by also honoring Samhain, lord of the dead, on Nov. 1. On “Halloween” Samhain called together wicked souls…
Movies create quite a scare over Halloween weekend
By Loren Hughes Staff Writer This past Saturday, on Oct. 31, many teenagers transitioned from trick-or-treating to going to movie theaters to see the latest horror flicks. Movie theaters everywhere were able to deliver these thrills, as numerous movies were definitely made to scare this Halloween weekend. Even though the Michael Jackson documentary “This Is It” prevailed over all other horror movies, four movies seemed to shine through over the weekend. Paranormal Activity triumphed as the number two movie of the weekend, raking in 16.5 million this weekend alone. This 16.5 million further adds to the 84.8 million dollars this film has earned in total, which is surprising due to its very low production budget. Saw VI came…
