Ashley Attanucci Web Manager As part of the spooky holiday that originated in Europe centuries ago and has been widely celebrated in the United States since the early 20th century, haunted houses are wiggling their way into pop culture and tradition and providing the perfect alternative to the high school trick-or-treating. Coppell holds haunted past unknown to most residents
Michelle Pitcher Opinions Editor Video by Caroline Bossman While Halloween costume stores have closed up shop until next year, paranormal spooks in the Coppell area are not taking a hiatus. Many locations in and around Coppell hold ominous reputations—tales of ghosts, disappearances and satanic presences. A widely known haunting tale is Bethel Cemetery, which is said to be home to the burial plot of one especially devious worshipper of the devil. His headstone bears strange markings and symbols and, when photographed, causes the pictures to appear distorted. “My friend used to live by that cemetery,” sophomore Katie Condon said. “We used to make up stories about it all the time.” Although this is a nice…
Halloween outrage
Kimberly Del Angel Staff Writer As most of you may know, last Sunday was Halloween, and as darkness crept up so did the little monsters on our doorstep. My siblings happened to be handing out candy when two older ladies in their mid 40′s or early 50′s rang the doorbell. They were dressed in tank tops and shorts, and carried ratty sacks, “Trick or treat,” they said. Unashamed and unaware of any problem in them asking for candy. There would have been no problem if it had not been that these woman did not have any children for which they were collecting the candy for, what made it even worse is that they didn’t even bother to dress up (not that…
Quirky collegiate trend proves worrisome for college officials
Michelle Pitcher Opinions Editor On university campuses across the nation, a war is going on. The weapons are Nerf Guns; the contenders humans and zombies. The game consists of several battles between the two warring sides. Opponents can defeat the other team using no means other than Nerf Guns and clever tactics. Created in 2005 by two students at a small college in Baltimore, Maryland, the game soon took off. It is basically a simulation of the famed concept of “Zombie Apocalypse” in which numerous students (in some cases, the number reaches close to one thousand) take their place on either team and go to great extents to see the other side defeated. There are…
