When Julie Green took over the position of head volleyball coach last March, she implemented new drills and routines designed to increase both physical fitness and competitive nature. From meeting Exxon Mobile representatives to making homemade lip balm, the Expo serves to educate students on the effects their non eco-friendly effects have on the environment. On Friday, the 3rd annual Sustainability Expo brought with it a new generation of sustainability, reaching students through interactive demonstrations. Business Manager On Friday, April 29, CHS will host their annual sustainability expo with the purpose of educating students on the numerous troubles facing the environment and find easy ways to go green. On Saturday, April 30, the city of Coppell is hosting Earthfest, a festival dedicated to helping educate the entire community on going green. They will also be hosting the “Clean Up, Fix Up” drive through collection from 10 am- 2 pm on April 30. The collection will take place at Town Center Elementary School in the parking lot. “Play Green” project funds recyclable containers for Coppell parks
Mary Whitfill Features Editor Coppell’s “Play Green” project was recently awarded funding to furnish Coppell’s public parks with permanent recycling receptacles as well as to purchase more portable recycling containers for special city events. With these containers, park users will be able to recycle the objects most commonly found on park trails – water bottles and cans. The containers will be paid for by a Solid Waste Implementation Project grant from the North Central Texas Council of Governments and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The grant, for just under $15,000 will provided enough funding for 17 new trash containers scattered along trails and throughout the parks. The containers have been placed at Andy Brown East…
Environmental science students continue Blackland Prairie restoration in Coppell
Ashley Attanucci Web Manager This year, AP and IB Environmental Science teacher Holly Anderson and her students began a new project to help restore the diminishing Blackland Prairie eco-region in Coppell’s own Coppell Nature Park. After an idle winter season, Anderson and her classes are transitioning from their planning stages and moving on to physical restoration. Students are planning to re-visit the recently mowed site to disperese seed balls -clusters of seeds of natural native species of plants- in hopes to recreate biodiversity at the field.
