Cowgirls suffer playoff loss to Grapevine in shootout
By Peter Sblendorio Sports Editor Just three days after the Coppell Cowboys soccer team was eliminated from the postseason, the Cowgirls suffered the same fate, falling to Grapevine in an overtime shootout to end their hopes for a state title. The Cowgirls, who beat Plano West 1-0 on Tuesday in the first round of the playoffs, were considered a legitimate contender for the state title before the second round loss. Coppell won District 7-5A this season, going 12-1-1 against divisional opponents in 2011. Grapevine scored the first goal of the game and entered halftime with a 1-0 lead. Grapevine Chocolate Festival held Mar. 12-13
By Rebecca Fowler Staff Writer Downtown Grapevine is known for its annual “Grapefest” in September. An event that many people do not know about, however, is Grapevine’s Chocolate Festival this Friday and Saturday, March 12-13. On Friday from 7-10pm, the Chocolate Fest will feature “An Evening of Chocolate and Wine,” held in the patio setting of La Buena Vida Vineyards, 416 E. College Street. Tickets for this adult-centered event are $35 in advance and $40 at the door, and will include chocolate samples, wine tasting, a souvenir wine glass, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and live music. Grapevine’s Main Street offers free holiday activities for all
By Loren Hughes Staff Writer For those that are looking for fun yet cheap activities to do for Christmas, Coppell might not be the place to look. A horse drawn carriage ride through Old Coppell is $165 (although I’m sure it’s extremely nice and worth the money). But for those high-schoolers that can’t afford such a ride, Grapevine’s Main Street is just the place to look. Main Street includes free carriage rides, freshly popped kettle corn, holiday characters and free games for kids such as “Santa Says.” The carriage ride travels through the east part of Main Street, and the holiday characters include Ellie the Elf and Frosty the Snowman.
