Most anticipated games of the year

By Chase Porter Staff Writer With 2011 behind us, game developers are already trying to come out with the next best game to compete with games like Battlefield and Modern Warfare 3. Some of the biggest news in the gaming community is the release of Halo 4 expected for sometime this spring or summer. Also Mass Effect 3, the follow up to one of the best games of 2011, will be releasing this year which will end the trilogy. Along with these franchise games Assassins Creed will be releasing another game and of course Call of Duty is sure to have one or more games being released but as of right now there has been…

Benefits of senior year continue with annual picnic

Thomas Hair Online Copy Editor For many students, all of the trials and tribulations of high school are worth it because of the perks of the long-awaited senior year. Students grind through their work with thoughts of the payoff of a glorious senior year as their only solace. This year’s seniors, the class of 2012, are already beginning to reap the benefits of being kings and queens of Coppell High School. In addition to undeniably cool senior class shirts which declare “BACK OFF, I’M A SENIOR” in all caps, and an upcoming panoramic photo opportunity, the seniors will enjoy a Senior Class Picnic this Wednesday during school. This year’s edition of the annual picnic, which will take place at Andy Brown Park…

CHS students play Battlefield 3 open beta

By Chase Porter Staff Writer Just days ago, DICE, the developer for Battlefield 3 released an open beat onto the Xbox live dashboard. This beta will be up for the next few weeks and I advice all fans of the game franchise to check it out. The beta for this first person shooter type game is available on the Xbox live dashboard and can be downloaded for free. The beta includes only one map and one game mode but most of the weapons and upgrades can be unlocked. The game so far looks great but some of the effects and graphics are a little sloppier than most fans would like to see. Fortunately, according to…

Gearing up for Gears of War 3

"Gears of War 3" is a fantastic idea polished to near perfection by an enormous crew of talented developers and a bottomless budget. (MCT Campus))

By Chase Porter Staff Writer Epic is the only word describing Gears of War 3, the final installment in the Gears of War trilogy. The third person shooter trilogy was released on Sept. 20 but went out with a bang. In 2006, Epic games began production on the sci-fi, third person shooter, the original Gears of War and it immediately became an instant favorite. After the game was released in 2007 the franchise became one of the major shooters on the Xbox 360 platform along with the Call of Duty and Halo franchises. “I’m a fan of the Call of Duty games but I think I’m going to buy Gears of War 3 because its…

Modern Warfare 3 release

By Chase Porter Staff Writer This year continues to be a big year for online gaming and now CHS students are preparing for the newest installment of the Call of Duty games, Modern Warfare 3. The trailer was released only a few days ago but already it has caused a lot of buzz. The biggest debate with the announcement of this sequel is can this new game improve from the past games? No one can say for sure yet but on May 23 the game creators will release the official launch trailer during the Western Conference Finals. This will give CHS students a much better look at the game and will hopefully give away some…

Crysis 2 Review

By Chase Porter Staff Writer Coppell High School students who enjoy gaming are constantly on the hunt for the next best game and I think that I may have found it. Previously the game Crysis has been primarily a desktop game but with the recent release of the sequel, Crysis 2, it appears that it may usher in a new era of games. This game is primarily a shooter set in the future were you are in control of a super solider trying to stop a deadly alien invasion. The story takes you to many different places from cities to alien ships and it is full of action. Just from watching reviews and videos on this…

iPhone’s top free app designed by 14-year-old

Thomas Hair Staff Writer For several days now, Bubble Ball has been the iPhone App Store’s number one free game. In the last two weeks, it has been downloaded 2 million times, a rate of almost 143,000 downloads per day. Many apps have had similar success, but the astonishing aspect of Bubble Ball is that it was researched, created, and developed by an 8th grade boy in his local library. The tech-savvy teen, Robert Nay, began working on Bubble Ball from the public library in Spanish Fork, Utah and released the game December 29, 2010. The young CEO of Nay Games says that he was “astonished” that his little project found such extreme success. When I heard about the…

Call of Duty does it again with Black Ops

Chase Porter Staff Writer It’s true: everyone loves Call of Duty: Black Ops. The franchise has done it again releasing its newest edition of Call of Duty with millions of followers all around the world. “It’s awesome,” said junior Garrett Hicks. “I love Call of Duty: Black Ops because the [Call of Duty] games have always been fun and the new additions really make it stand out from the other games.” The Call of Duty franchise has released games for almost the entire decade starting with WWII games and then branching off into different story lines, like Modern Warfare and now with Black Ops. Black Ops has re-introduced the meaning of the first person shooter…

BCS system outweighs a playoff for college football

Many critics of the BCS system are pushing for a conversion to a traditional playoff used in every other sport

Southlake anticipation

By Chase Porter Staff Writer Three years ago I was a freshman here at CHS and the football game I most vividly remeber is the victory we had over Southlake. I assume that all of us know about our bitter rivalry with the Dragons, but if you do not I suggest you get with the picture. They are one of our oldest rivals stretching all the way back to the 90′s (I know, a long time right?). They have even given us one of our oldest traditions- the plunger boy. Also, they give us one game a year where we can legitimately storm the field and that brings me to 3 years ago. Obviously, large amounts…
