“Date Night” movie review
By Rebecca Fowler Staff Writer Steve Carrell and Tina Fey. Two of the best comedians on television in one movie. What could be better, right? Actually, a lot. Date Night, featuring the stars of NBC’s “The Office” and “30 Rock,” hit theaters April 9 after much excited anticipation from fans. The film finished No. 1 at the box-office on its opening day, beating Clash of the Titans in its second weekend as well as DreamWorks’ How to Train your Dragon in its third. But it will most-likely only be downhill from there. The film’s poorly-advertised plot centers around an average suburban couple who, while out on their weekly “date night,” find themselves mixed up in…
Oh the parties…
By Wren Culp Staff Writer Last night I went to downtown Dallas, and went clubbing. That’s right, I went to the top floor of a hotel, which was an old attic that they transformed into a “party pad” in 48 hours, and partied it up with a bunch of older people. And don’t worry I only drank 7-Up. If you are a little confused by the statement above, don’t worry. I will explain everything. I am attending the International Dallas Film Festival which is being held April 8th-18. As a member of the press, I was invited to a “pre-party”. And let me tell you something, my expectations were totally different than what I got….
“Beware of Christians” comes to Dallas
By Rebecca Fowler Staff Writer Most students don’t feel they can make a difference. We get involved as much as we can but never get the feeling that we are truly recognized or appreciated. One college student is making a difference, however, and not just at his university but across the nation. Baylor University senior Will Bakke, the director of One Nation Under God, is coming out with a new and inspiring film this weekend. The movie is called Beware of Christians. Starring Bakke and his friends Michael Allen, Matt Owen and Alex Carroll, Beware of Christians is a documentary-styled film following the four boys’ search to discover the Jesus of the Bible, rather than…
Golden Globe Surprises
By Angela Almeida Opinions Editor The 67th annual Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 17, 2010. Although the Globes by no means hold the prestige of the Oscars, they do hold some value in the minds of audiences. Which leads me to think, what compelled some rather random, perhaps undeserved nominations this year? First off, I understand that Sandra Bullock has a place in America’s heart, but emotion does not constitute a nomination. That is, unless the emotion derives from a stunning performance. Which, in the case of Bullock, nominated for Best Actress in both The Blind Side and The Proposal, is not the case. Yes, I enjoyed her Ole Miss rendition of Southern’s finest. Yes, I could…
New Jason Bourne film on the way
That’s right Jason Bourne fans, another installment of the hit series is underway and scheduled for release in summer of 2010. Not much is known about the film at this time except that director of the previous two films, “The Bourne Supremacy” and “The Bourne Ultimatum”, Paul Greengrass has signed onto to direct the film. And of course Matt Damon, who has played Bourne in all three of the films, has signed on to visit the role again. But it’s always great to hear it from the horse’s mouth (so to speak), so via an interview with Parade Magazine Matt Damon confirmed that a Bourne 4 is definitely already being worked on: “We’re working on it. This…
