Coppell style staples
by Jordan Thompson Staff Writer From half-calves to ‘tanks,’ and yoga pants to Sperry’s, this town is seriously unique when it comes to style. In fact, it seems like the way we dress here gives us a distinction from other cities around the DFW area, and especially from other states. In the past five or so years, Coppell has acquired fashion staples that almost all of us own: Oversized t-shirt with leggings/yoga pants Most Coppell girls wear this outfit at least once a week. It consists of a t-shirt they stole from their dad and the most versatile form of pants ever created Nike shorts Nike shorts are a favorite to teenage girls in Coppell….
Vera Bradley bags-Trend of the decade
I’ve always loved the 80′s. To be honest, I could have easily lived in that time period, considering I naturally love the music and style, and specialize in almost every film from that time period. It is weird to think how what was once considered a common trend then would be considered ‘vintage’ in 2011. This leads me to also think about what is considered stylish today and how our kids will think of it. For instance-Vera Bradley. Take a look around the classroom-I promise you will see at least three abstract floral bags with that label. Almost every girl at CHS owns either a Vera Bradley wallet, purse or school bag. Maybe even a…
Students step into Nike shoe design competition
Ashley Attanucci Web Manager “Boom Boom Pow” playing loudly, students gathered shaking to Dance Central, iMacs and giveaways on stage during lunch— if you noticed the unusual “pep rally” during lunch the week of Monday, Feb. 21, you should know it was the act of none than Nike Inc. As part of an exclusive, mobile tour across the U.S., Nike sent two tour managers, a van and hundreds of pairs of shoes to Coppell High School in recognition of our track team to help raise team spirit for their first meet and held a school-wide shoe-designing contest. iMacs were provided on stage at all three lunches for one week where students were able to design…
False tanning methods radiate dangerous skin problems
Kara Adkins Staff Writer To escape the winter season, many girls at Coppell High School are turning to tanning beds in order to get that desired summer glow. However, the price of beauty, in this case, is very steep. Although many tan to look and feel better about themselves, there are serious health concerns with tanning. Tanning machines omit ultraviolet radiation that can cause skin cancer. If one tans frequently, it is even possible for them to receive up to 12 times the UV radiation they would receive from normal sun exposure. With that said, teens still take the health risks as a grain of salt. “I just feel like I should always be tan….
Prom fashion show
Abby Drake Staff Writer Prom is one of the most exciting nights of a high school senior’s career and there is a lot to do in preparation for the big night. Students have to find a date, make diner reservations, arrange for a limo and, most importantly, find the perfect thing to wear. In order to give students an idea of what to wear, Coppell High School puts on an annual Prom Fashion Show. Different seniors are chosen to show off different dresses from David’s Bridal and suits from Men’s Warehouse. All seniors are gathered in the gym to watch as different tuxedos and gowns go by, giving them an inside look at what they…
What’s CHS strutting this holiday season?
Kimberly Del Angel Staff Writer With the upcoming holidays and the chilly weather approaching us, the attack of sweaters and boots has taken over. Walking through the hallways has become a colorful, knitted wonderland. For girls, it seems the daily attire has become a casual knit top from Forever 21, paired with some denims from Miss Me, topped off with some fuzzy Ugg boots. More casual outfits have also descended such as solid V-Necks and slouchy sweats from Victoria’s Secret. Accessories! Accessories! Accessories! Everyone is also strutting that stylish bold scarf with almost everything. The fuzzy North Face monster has also consumed CHS girls. For boys it seems that attire has not much changed, but altered to meet necessities. We still have…
A quick fix to an autumn wardrobe malfunction
Ashley Attanucci Web Manager Boots. A favorite item of girls’ to wear as soon as the weather is cold enough to not appear crazy to wear them. So this season, make sure that your boots bring their A-game to your next outfit by ensuring that they don’t sag with the Boot Stay. For ten bucks, this investment is garuanteed to keep your boot from sagging down. Though I’ve never experienced this phenomenon (the only boots I ever wear anyways are fur-lined winter boots that are tight enough to stick to my leg on their own), this product is quite popular online. Just peel and stick the cotton-covered adhesive to inside of your boot and you’re…
A closer look into the perfect jeans
by Ashley Attanucci Web Manager I had never before considered this to be such an issue, but after reading about an invention called “Hemming My Way” I realized how much hems really do matter. It is so true that the length of your pant leg can make or break any outfit. This fact is the reason why we girls, well some of us, spend so much effort and money trying to tailor our jeans! Though I’ve always been too lazy to take my pants to a tailor (too lazy to foot the bill), it has bothered me morning after morning, playing with the bottom of my pant leg -folding under, folding over, scrunching up- trying to…
A new kind of frocket
by Ashley Attanucci Web Manager Exploring another interesting creation, called the Pocksie: It is a clever solution to a problem encountered by many –the lack of a pocket. Its slogan is “No purse. No pocket. No problem!” as it promises to securely hold all one’s important, traveling belongings, like ID, cash, and credit cards. The Pocksie (what a cute name) slips underneath your clothing and sticks like an inner pocket. It is, of course, adhesive –though I question whether it will even support the weight of a pen. It is advertised as something that can replace a purse on a girl’s night out, but the Pocksie won’t hold lipstick or really anything that is more…
