Environmental science students continue Blackland Prairie restoration in Coppell

Ashley Attanucci Web Manager This year, AP and IB Environmental Science teacher Holly Anderson and her students began a new project to help restore the diminishing Blackland Prairie eco-region in Coppell’s own Coppell Nature Park. After an idle winter season, Anderson and her classes are transitioning from their planning stages and moving on to physical restoration. Students are planning to re-visit the recently mowed site to disperese seed balls -clusters of seeds of natural native species of plants- in hopes to recreate biodiversity at the field. Environmental Science students merge with plants and animals

On Tues., Sept. 21, the AP and IB Environmental Science students took a trip to the Coppell Nature Park in order to get a first-hand account of the research they have completed in the class about one specific receding ecoregion of the park: the Blackland Prairie. AP/IB Environmental Science teacher Holly Anderson prepared several activities for students in attempt to expose them to the character and features of the Blackland Prairie. Sustainability Expo class registration open

Satvika Ananth Staff Writer As CHS gears up for TAKS week, students can look forward to a relaxing Friday after three days of testing, when the AP Environmental Science classes will be hosting the Sustainability Expo. Sign-ups for classes are now available online. Students can also enter the website through their fourth period on Blackboard, and sign-ups are available through April 22. Enrollment is a quick and easy process, allowing students to merely click on the courses they are interested in after reading brief descriptions of each session.
