Cowboys take on Duncanville tonight
By Chase Porter Staff Writer The Cowboys basketball team is already 9 and 0 going into their tenth regular season game tonight against Duncanville at home in the large gym at 7:30. While the Cowboys may be on a winning streak early in the season Duncanville has proved to be a worthy opponent in the past. Not unlike our Cowboys though, the Duncanville basketball program graduated many of their starters from this past year so their team will be stacked with many underclassmen. Not only will we be playing more upperclassmen than them, we also have the size advantage. With many of our starters easily breaking through the six foot barrier, our Cowboys should have…

Coppell Wind Ensemble excels at UIL
Thomas Hair Staff Writer Every Coppell High School Band for over 20 years has received Division I ratings at the UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest, and the CHS Wind Ensemble continued that streak today, April 12. Students in the Wind Ensemble departed CHS for Duncanville High School after A Lunch for UIL, which is usually considered the most important contest for concert band. At UIL, the Wind Ensemble performed their concert selections for a panel of three judges before moving on to the sight reading portion of the contest, where their ability to play a new song at first glance was tested. In the concert portion of the contest, the Wind Ensemble performed Third Suite by Jager, Symphonic Prelude by Camphouse,…
Marcus, Duncanville matchup intriguing
By Travis Bremner Staff Writer The best second round matchup in the Texas 5A state basketball is between Flower Mound Marcus and Duncanville. The two meet tonight in Birdville. The game features two of the area’s best players, Marcus Smart of Marcus and Baylor-bound Perry Jones of Duncanville. The Panthers (22-12) are a perennial powerhouse, but they’re not on the same level this year as in years past. Smart and Phil Forte, both juniors, have led the Marauders (33-2) to an incredible season, going undefeated in district 6-5A. Marcus defeated Keller by 17 points in the first round, Duncanville edged Wylie by five. The interesting matchup in this game will be the size and athletic…
Cowboys hang tough in loss to Duncanville
By Travis Bremner Staff Writer After scoring some style points with pre-game games, the Duncanville Panthers had to work for their 50-45 over Coppell. The defensive struggle was apparent after the first quarter, when score ended at 11-9 in favor of Duncanville. The Cowboys (5-3) played well throughout, and kept it close the game but just couldn’t get over the proverbial hump and grab hold of the lead. Post man Dallas Riney led Coppell in scoring with 10 points, including an emphatic alley-oop slam from Andrew Bourg that got the crowd on their feet. It wasn’t all good times however; the Cowboys had several missed short range attempts at the basket that helped the Panthers…
Duncanville, Perry Jones look to invade Coppell
By Travis Bremner Staff Writer When the Duncanville Panthers walk into Coppell High School later on today, they’ll have an aura about them, a strut in their step. A swagger that led the Panthers to the UIL 5A state championship game last season and state titles in 1991, 1997 and 2007. Coppell is coming off a victory over Allen last Tuesday, a game in which they scored double digits in every quarter, something they will undoubtedly need to if they are to contend in this game. The Cowboys (5-2) get Taylor Goebel, Nic Johnston, Kyle Echerd and Carter Kemp back from the gridiron; they will provide plenty of size and athleticism. Duncanville (7-4) haven’t jumped…
