Fifteen members of the Coppell High School Swim & Dive Team will travel to The Colony this weekend, Jan. 10 and 11, for the Region II meet. Swimmers who placed in the Top 6 at the District meet on Jan. 28 have advanced.

Among the swimmers advancing to the regional meet are Hayden Henry (200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke), Lauren Kuechler (200 IM and 100 butterfly), Luke Meyer (50 and 100 freestyle), Josh Chanin (100 backstroke), Kristian Chanin (100 butterfly), Shannon Wheeler (50 freestyle) and all of the relay teams.

Henry set school records in the 200 IM and breaststroke with times of 1:55.28 and 58.95, respectively. Altogether, the Cowboys placed 2nd while the Cowgirls placed 4th. The team is pleased by the results at the district meet, as most times were personal bests, and is optimistic about the Region II meet.

With the relay teams included, fifteen Coppell swimmers will represent CHS at the regional meet. If these Cowboys and Cowgirls can overcome fierce competition there, top finishers will advance to the state meet.

On Nov. 18 and 20, the Coppell Swim Team continued their outstanding season by setting four school records at the two-day TISCA (Texas Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association) Competition at the Alfred J Loos Sports Complex.

Junior Hayden Henry, son of Coach Patrick Henry, inked his name in the CHS record books once again by setting multiple school records at this competition over Thanksgiving Break.

Tomorrow, this record-breaking Cowboys swim team will travel to Southlake for a District meet against their rivals, the Dragons. While Coppell did well at the TISCA meet last week, the Southlake Carroll Swim Team dominated the competition, winning 1st place in both Boys and Girls competitions.

This will be one of Coppell’s toughest meets of the season. If you want to support the team as they slay the Dragons, it will take place from 6-8 p.m. at the Southlake Aquatic Center.

The sudden disappearance of Hwanyeo Park, an elderly Coppell resident, has prompted a countywide search, which spanned the Coppell, Denton, Lewisville and Lake Cities counties. Over 300 people, as well as Lewisville’s dive team, searched for days, specifically near the Trinity River, before two kayakers found the missing body in the Trinity River and contacted the authorities.

Mr. Park’s body was found in the Sandy Lake portion of the Trinity River last Saturday and it appears that his death was the result of an accidental drowning. His grandsons, for whom he left Korea in order to spend more time with, attend Copppell schools.

I drove up to my house last night to see that my front lawn had been inhabited by a hoard of pink, plastic flamingos. Unless my parents decided to decorate using some weird retro-theme, something was definitely up.

Turns out, my family is now a part of the CHS Swim and Dive team‘s third annual “Flamingo Flocking FUNdraiser”. In order to have the flock removed from our yard, we are asked to donate money to the team. We can also pay extra money to send the flock to someone else’s house and/or find out who sent the flock to us.

Of course, all of this could have been adverted if we had only paid the $20 flocking insurance, which would have granted us immunity to the whole frenzy. But, alas, we did not, so for now we’re just stuck with these blasted — but, nevertheless, hilarious — birds.

The fundraiser began on Nov. 5 and will run until Nov. 15 and all donations benefit the CHS Swim and Dive Team. So if you find a group of unexpected plastic friends outside your door…well, you’ll just have to Annie-up to see if it was me.
